Do you have to be Jewish to enjoy a Jewish delicatessen? I'm not Jewish but Kaufman's Bagel & Delicatessen in north suburban Skokie has everything it takes--from hot corn beef sandwiches to bagels with cheese to a bakery full of Eastern European breads, fresh pastries, cookies, pies and cakes--to satisfy anyone's palate. One downer for some Jewish folks: it isn't... More

But, still pretty good. Take a number and order at the counter while they custom make you a sandwich. There are some tables to eat in, but it doesn't have the dine in feel to it. The corn beef and pastrami are tasty, but to fatty for my personal tastes. I prefer it leaner. If you're craving corn beef and... More

the best corned beef in Chicagoland! My Irish friends come here to get corned beef for the Irish dishes. Terrific sandwiches of all kinds. A few tiny tables for those who must gobble up their goods before heading home. Good bakery. Have been coming here for years

All the usual fairs of a fine Jewish deli are available all is well prepared and keeps to the essential taste of great corned beef, pastrami, potato knish, and dozens of other items. The bakery is equally excellent and I love their rugelach. Wish I could share these with my kosher friends.

Kaufman's is a great deli that serves a full range of kosher food. The pastrami sandwich in truly very very good. A big NYC type portion on rye bread with incredible pickles. The service is outstanding and the take selection of other merchandise to take out is also very good. Highly recommended.

Premises were completely rebuilt after a fire in 2011 -- but the food is as delicious as ever. Ticket dispenser is to your right as you enter. Eat in at tables or counter seating, or take out. Currently rated #1 in Skokie. All the meat is kosher, BUT there is not a dedicated meat slicer and all the equipment (meat... More

Not being from this area, my choice of eatery for lunch was made by reading reviews. What I didn't notice was that Kaufman's isn't really a restaurant. Yes, they now have a few tables, and a few more outdoors. But there is no service. One obtains a number on entry and then waits for service at the counter. That being... More

Quick summary: this review is based on what I want from a good deli, not fine dining. The bakery and sandwiches are wonderful, in a clean, casual place. We usually stop here for a wide variety of good bagels made the right way (i.e. boil them before baking, or they just come out like soft bread and lack a real... More

Excellent corned beef sandwich. Never had a complaint here. Bagels are excellent too. They have a nice selection of deli meats as well. Couldn't tell you how they taste, because all I order is the corned beef sandwich! A large variety of breads are available as well. Also a nice selection of desserts. It's worth an out of the way...
