SURPRISE ME!!! DONKEY INN is quite GOOD!!!

I've lived in the area for almost 30 years and NEVER ventured into the Donkey Inn because 1) the location is oddly placed 2) the name is odd 3) it's a BAR. Yesterday was St. Paddy's day and I needed corned beef and cabbage. I don't know how to cook corned beef and cabbage. Donkey Inn had a... read more

I'm so proud to say that the wonderful Schnell brothers have done a wonderful job running the Donk! The waitstaff is fun and friendly. The atmosphere at the Donk is cozy and friend/family oriented. The drinks are good and priced fair. The food is also very tasty. The salsa and chips are delicious and you get a TON of salsa!... More

I don't know if I've always managed to go on off nights, but this is really a nice quite restaurant with a little bar area. From the outside it looks like it's going to be a loud carousing kind of bar. The food has been good every time I've been. The service is good/okay. A great place to go if... More

We were faithful customers for over the past 7 years and this establishment was A+ back when they employed waitresses who had a rapport (and a personality) WITH their Clientele. Once Diane was abruptly let go, their other servers (such as Laura), followed "better working conditions". Along with their leaving, was the desire to be served appropriate sized plate portions... Interesting place. Has a sign that says dates to the 1930s (can't recall the exact year). Given that Palatine/Rolling Meadows - well... let's just say this would have been a bit out of the way then - didn't stretch that far in 1940 or before - something lasting 70+ years deserves a visit. The place is usually crowded. I took... More

We usually stop in for a cocktail or dinner but decided to try breakfast. So glad we did! The menu is extensive with everything from omelets and skillets to lighter fare. The link sausage rivaled any I've had even in Iowa pork country. The bloody Mary's were just average. The service was really fast and friendly. A nice change from... More

I read the previous reviews and thought how much I enjoy fish fries. The walleye was hard as a rock and had to cut it with a knife. My mother in law got the catfish and thought it tasted swampy. My husband got the bottomless ocean perch and that was the best fish with light coating. The side salads were... More

Road trip that took us to Palatine Illinois. Our friend recommended this lively pub. There was an abundance of televisions hanging from the wall. So you could say sports bar? Nope. Its a lovely pub atmosphere that reminded us of the 'Cheers' pub in the television series. You know where everybody knows your name? Well, at least it felt that... More

In my opinion, Donkey Inn's walleye pike on Friday evenings is by far the best fish dinner in the Palatine area.
