This is a cute restaurant inside a boutique hotel in Oak Park. We came for lunch on our way to the Frank Lloyd Wright Studio and House. Other than being across the street from the Hemingway Museum, I'm not sure what is Hemingway about the place but we'll be back. The food was tasty, the place well executed, the service... More

Yes, it's that season again .....that short window of time to bite into these crunchy, succulent giants. I ate my first soft shell crab at age 15 when my Mother and I went to New Orleans and visited an outdoor restaurant on Lake Ponchartrain. What a delight eating the whole crab shell and all. Since then I have eaten a... More

I have had wonderful dinners at Hemmingways and this was my first brunch. My sister was in from out of town and I don't think I could have picked a more perfect local place for us to have brunch! I will be back!

Attentive service; traditional French cuisine, competently executed; and a European feel. What's not to like?

The waitress took 25 minutes to return after handing us menus because she was having an animated discussion with a friend at the bar -- I had to send another waiter to fetch her. The food was not particularly tasty or well prepared when it arrived. The place itself is quite pleasant . It has a nice quiet ambience. I... More

This establishment loses control of their kitchen more often then they should. I don't know if the server forgets to put in the order or they are so backed up they can't get the food out but this is a terrible reputation for a restaurant to have in a prime location. The escargot is canned (not surprising) but they then... More

We ate there twice for dinner during a short visit to Oak Park. The food was excellent, well prepared and presented. They have an emphasis on fresh fish and seafood which we took advantage of. It is very full on weekeends so reservations are needed.

I hesitate to criticize any restaurant in the Oak Park-River Forest area (there are too few & I think I've eaten at all of them at one time or another) but the food at Hemmingway's Bistro was just this side of "ordinary." At lunch, my friend and I ordered liver pate (nice), blossoms in a lemon-butter sauce (fine), and a... More

Bistro is very authentic and offers a wide array of meals from which to choose. Escargots are excellent. Specials are good; staff is friendly and attentive. For those who have visited Paris and long for a bit of the "City of Light," this is a nice substitute.
