It takes a lot for me to write a negative review about a restaurant, but I am compelled to do so about Ron of Japan in Northbrook because both my teenage son and I were sick after having had dinner there. I was expecting it to be as good as Benihana in terms of food quality, service and overall experience... More

I've been to hibachi styled restaurants my entire life and Ron of Japan disappoints big time. Their chefs do no tricks with the customers, they are all "business". No egg spin, so shrimp toss, no smiles. Eating at R.O.J. was like eating food with stone statues as my chefs. Customer service was no where to be found. They charged 6... More

Don't do it. I don't typically write a rant - but I can't think of any better way to warn others to STAY AWAY! The wait staff was poorly trained at best. I spent half of my meal dropping my food in my lap because my fork was remove with my iceberg lettuce salad with a heavy and flavorless dressing.... More

There just isn't anything good to say... The service, the food, the atmosphere were consistently poor. The advertisements enticed us to try....but we won't be back. I have visited many Japanese steakhouses and this has really been one of the worst. There seating protocol needs work. We were sent to the bar, where there was no table service. If you... More

I've been to a lot of hibachi Japaneses places around the country. This was my least favorite. The chef barely looked up from the food he was preparing (very robotic). The food was mediocre. They put ground beef in the fried rice which tasted more like Hamburger Helper. The prices were on the high side ($35 for steak/shrimp), but it... More

Ron of Japan is always a solid choice for Japanese Steak Houses. The quality of the food from the Steak to the Lobster Tails is always superior to the other similar choices on the North Shore.

As a lover of Japanese food I found the decor "attractive" but the food and table show fell way below even Benihana standards, and that's not saying much. The big event was the "chef" pouring hot oil on the habachi table and seeing it burst into flames that could singe ones eyebrows -- lots of heat and little else that... More

Ron's is a typical tepanyaki (grill at table) restaurant like a Kyoto or Bennihana. Inside the walkway to the tables is unbelivable - ponds and bridges line the restaurant center. It is a large place so it can accomodate many. Unlike others I have been to though, the tables are smaller, more intimate. The cooking area is 1/3 the size... More

Ron of Japan's is the best Japanese restaurant I have eaten at and I have eaten at a few. The food is prepared hibachi style right at the table of course, it is always fresh, flavor beyond description, cooked to order and perfection. There is a secret egg sauce that is addictive it is used on the shrimp and you... More

Traditional Japanese Steakhouse. Don’t be fooled by the outside, it’s in an office building! I was a little surprised it wasn’t busier when we went, it was primetime on a Saturday night. There were a lot of people there but there wasn’t a wait which can be normal for great restaurants. The ambience was nice, great décor inside, true to... More
