Less than my expectations

I am originally from the Northshore area of Chicago and had heard many wonderful things about Allgauer's through the years. I was staying at the Hilton for an event and was very excited that Allgauer's was located on site! Yipee! After a long drive and check in, I invited a friend to join me for... read more

Went as a large party for special Easter brunch. Over an hour wait despite reservations. Food and service were worse. Dry, over cooked beef. Hard, rubbery shrimp from boiling too long. Crab legs with freezer burn marks. (Corn bread was delicious. But we weren't there for that.)Just really no appreciation of detail. No drawn butter for the crab, lack of... More

We had a visitor from California, and it was my idea to take her out to Allgauer's and give the restaurant "one last chance." (It's been four years, since our last visit and review here on TripAdvisor.) I explained to our guest how Allgauer's used to be one of the best restaurants on the North Shore/North Suburbs so many years... More

This restaurant is located in the hilton. I've been staying at the hilton for a year or so. Over the last 9 months this restaurant has gone down hill. To the point I won't recommend it. They use to have great steaks. Now they are thin pieces of fat. No flavor. Quality is gone. So is the chef. Shrimp are... More

Our Valentine's Day dinner was not the wonderful, tasty meal that we had anticipated. There was a 'special' Valentine's Day menu which looked very interesting, but the items ordered were disappointing. The Ribeye steak was thin, but tasted ok. It reminded us of a steak you would get at the old Ponderosa Steakhouse. I had the Orange Roughy stuffed with... More

Breakfast and dinner were very disappointing. The atmosphere is great, but the service personnel and the food lack the earmarks of a fine restaurant. The restaurant is co-located with the Hilton, and I don't know their relationship, but I expected more of the Hilton. This is not a "Chicago Class" restaurant.

We've been going to the Friday night seafood buffet here on and off for years and the most recent offering was not up to snuff. Sure, it's good value for $40 with all you can eat Alaskan crab legs, oysters (raw and Rockefeller) salads of all kinds - from traditional greens to all kinds of shrimp and seafood offerings, fresh... I did not like that a clean table during the breakfast hour was hard to find. The tables were not being reset after previous guests left. Dinner was good, but expensive

This was a very nice location for a luncheon for about 65 people following a family celebration. I enjoyed the traditional service by the waiters. A wine was recommended and the waiter went out of his way to bring me a small glass to sample following up with a glass when he checked back with me to see if I... More

The quality of their food is excellent, and the staff just runs for you. Just b/c they ran out of eggs one time for someone--means absolutely Nothing!! Please! The selection on their holiday menu, is wonderful, and if you just dine during the week, their entrees' are delicious! ie: I'm not crazy about turkey, BUT at Allgauers--it is not to be... More
