A filling lunch

The name of this place is actually Gemato's Wood Pit BBQ. I had been driving by it for a while, and decided to stop for lunch now that they've completely redone the exterior. I ordered one of the combos - a sandwich, drink, and side - and really liked that the side gives you the choice of soup or... read more

I was in the Chicago area on business and journeyed to Naperville for dinner with a dear friend and her kids. She choose Gemato's, a favorite of her family. I had Greek chicken and barbecue ribs, and they were both spectacular! Great food and a reunion with a friend -- wonderful experience all around!

Gemato's has been around for many years. I can remember 20 years ago when they were known for Gyros and other Greek specialties. Over the years however, they have gradually transformed into a BBQ restaurant with Greek item still on the menu. The BBQ here is good, however I find it hard to order when I'm used to getting gyros... More

There is NO excuse for cooking food this sweet ! ( Unless one uses too much sugar to mask the quality of meat perhaps..?) Stopped here on a whim, right after Thanksgiving, hungry. The four of us got two hamburgers and two sides of ribs - pork and beef with beans and coleslaw. Our kid liked her cheeseburger but the... More

I recently went to Gematos with my grandparents. They are regulars and swear they have the best pulled pork in the Chicago area. I was pretty excited because I'm always up for good pulled pork. Anyway the three of us went up to order. My grandma insisted on all of us getting the same meal deal. It was 9.19 for... More

I have visited this place many times. The number one thing is you smell the wood firepit the second you get out of the car. Ribs are my absolute favorite. The law of diminishing returns does not exist in this place for ribs. I can eat 1 rib, or full slab. The last rib will just be as tasty and... More

We have been going to Gemato's since Menards moved from that location. Maybe 10 - 15 years ago. I don't remember. They have the best ribs, the best chicken, and the best gyros. They are obviously doing something right, because they have are adding more space to the place. From the owner to the cooks - everyone is so friendly.... More

We are new to Gemato's, but we are already big fans. Every meat item that we've had has been outstanding. Baked beans and cole slaw are average, but the Greek-style potatoes are really nice as a side. Eating the ribs by hand or with a fork, the meat pulls off of the bones with ease. I love it that they... More

Many places around here claim to be wood pit BBQ and the cabinet that Gemato's uses cetainly does not qualify as a wood pit, in my opinion. Regardless, not like you will find a traditional wood pit in Chicago but the pile of wood in the back is cetainly a plus and shows that they are close. Even with that,... More

My husband and I stopped here for an early dinner on our way home from Elmhurst College. He ordered the Beef Brisket Platter with Greek potatoes, garlic bread, and baked beans. He loved the whole meal and was very full from the nice portion of food. I ordered the Pulled Pork Platter with French fries, garlic bread, and coleslaw. I... More
