Moist, juicy and flavorful with a thin, crispy crust. You will not be disappointed. It is served family style with mashed potatoes, gravy, dumplings, beans, corn and biscuits...but who are we kidding, it's all about the Chicken and the view.

We stayed in the cabins and I was a little worried because there was no kitchen. However, the food at the lodge was superb!! We enjoyed a breakfast buffet in the morning and the all you can eat chicken in the evening. Never had chicken taste so good!!

We were in Makanda and went to Giant City Restaurant for the fried chicken. It was everything we had wanted. The corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, dumplings and biscuits with apple butter were great. We were in the area four days and ate at the lodge two nights. Great especially if you like friend chicken.

The fried chicken dinner is famous for a reason! Our waitress was not knowledgeable at all and couldn't answer any of the questions we asked, regardless of the subject (food, wine, history of the lodge, etc).

A group of us went to Giant City Lodge for the fried chicken and dumpling family style meal. The lodge and setting is one of the finest in Southern IL. Service is good and the food is great. When you go make sure to take your appetite along.

My husband and I went to the Lodge for his birthday lunch. The waitress first said to us, "I don't know if you are my table but here" and gave us menus. She never made eye contact, looked out the window and seemed either distracted or spaced-out. She came back to tell me there was no spinach for my spinach... More

I have eaten at Giant City Lodge approximately once a year for many years. This evening I took my Mother there for a special treat and was so dissapointed we were upset all the way home. First of all the food was lukewarm and because the room was cold it did not take long for the food to get cold.... More

We stayed in a bluff cabin on a Sunday night so we got to have the special Sunday Chicken dinner. It was wonderful and sooo much food! It was all we needed until a Sunday dessert treat that night that we took to out cabin and enjoyed every bite! Monday morning we had breakfast in the lodge and felt bad... More

Couldn't wait to dine at the Lodge after 24 years...had lots of memories of SIU-C events here and Sunday dinners with my family when they visited. Everything was exactly as I remembered, but I wish I had remembered to go ahead and order the Chicken dinner instead of opting for the healthier 40-something diet. I had the tilapia and it... More

The building alone will draw you in! This is a very "homey" place. It was built by the CCC. The food is delicious. I have never eaten a better prepared meal as this. It's chicken n' dumplins, fried chicken and all the trimmings! I have no words to describe the fried livers! Even if you do not like liver (sounds... More
