Ladd, Illinois, located one mile north of Interstate 80 on Route 89 near Spring Valley in the Ottawa/Streator area, was incorporated in 1890 and will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2015. But the tiny Bureau County community has a population of only 1,295. It didn't have any chain stores until 1998. It is most notable for the large hill in... More

What you see is what you get, nothing fancy here, not even real silverware. Just a little hole in the wall tavern that serves some of the finest fried chicken 5 nights a week. It used to be better back when Mom and Pop ran the place. Son in law took over and has changed the format a bit. Still,... More

I LOVE Rips chicken. Easy menu--light or dark. If you dine in get crispier for an appetizer. It's the fried breading that has fallen of the chicken in the fryer. Great atmosphere!! Fun place to hang out. You can carry Rips out to Mi would drive miles and miles for Rips. My family just carried out over 100 pieces of... More

We came after hearing great reviews. We came on a wednesday night at about 6pm, and there was still a wait. There are no menus, so you order before you are seated. There is chicken ( white or dark quarter ) or tenders and wings. Nice beer selection while you wait for a table. Restaurant was very family orientated with... More

No one does it like the Illinois Valley! My family demands a trip here every time they visit. Menu is limited, but everyone waits in line for the light & dark fried chicken, krispies, mushrooms, and pickles. If you have a weak stomach, beware this ultimate feast of mouthwatering grease. On a weekend night, get there before 5pm or expect... More

I stopped by with my family after hearing about how good this place was, and it was just after a football game. in the area. The wait time to eat was long, but I did expect that. The problem was when my family was seated we were served some chicken crumbs first, and then out came our waters. My family... More

Didnt like the 90 minute wait for a seat, and it was noisier than working in a factor as the husband and I know all to well.

Fried Chicken is a delicacy like no other in the Illinois Valley. People come from miles around and even wait in line outside for Rip's Chicken. It's a fun place. And they are very charitable to our local community, which is one of the great things about living in a small town.

We stopped in at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was about half full and we were seated right away. As soon as you walk in you can tell this place specializes in fried food - the kitchen has at least six deep fat fryers going, and the floor felt a bit greasy under my feet. But the bathrooms...
