Visiting from Australia, the locals insisted we have dinner here. It was all explained. We arrived at 16:00 hrs on the dot, got a table and drink. Where served the 'scrapes' as starters, then the deep fried mushrooms and pickles. And then mains..... A white half for me. Wing and breast of the best deep fried chicken I have ever... More

Rips is a chicken place. You have fried chicken and chicken strips (fish on Fridays only). You get krispies from the fryer and pickles as complementary appetizer. You can order fried mushrooms which is the only other food they have. A full bar with a okay selection of craft beers makes the trip to this one street town worth it.

We read about Rip's in an article from a Chicago paper just after we returned home from a trip to the state parks in the general vicinity of Rip's Tavern, and we made a note to check out the place if we ever traveled to the area again. That chance came recently when we spent a couple of nights in... More

Went to Rip's for the first time after hearing so much about it. Went on Halloween night as we were passing through town. I will agree the fried chicken was excellent and will go back again. Large portions for a decent price.

I am biased because I am from the area, but Rip's has always had charisma in treating each customer uniquely and with the best service. I thought I would write a review from an experience unlike most will ultimately have. I no longer live in the area so when I do near Rip's from states away I have started calling... More

Ladd, Illinois, located one mile north of Interstate 80 on Route 89 near Spring Valley in the Ottawa/Streator area, was incorporated in 1890 and will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2015. But the tiny Bureau County community has a population of only 1,295. It didn't have any chain stores until 1998. It is most notable for the large hill in... More

What you see is what you get, nothing fancy here, not even real silverware. Just a little hole in the wall tavern that serves some of the finest fried chicken 5 nights a week. It used to be better back when Mom and Pop ran the place. Son in law took over and has changed the format a bit. Still,... More

I LOVE Rips chicken. Easy menu--light or dark. If you dine in get crispier for an appetizer. It's the fried breading that has fallen of the chicken in the fryer. Great atmosphere!! Fun place to hang out. You can carry Rips out to Mi would drive miles and miles for Rips. My family just carried out over 100 pieces of... More

We came after hearing great reviews. We came on a wednesday night at about 6pm, and there was still a wait. There are no menus, so you order before you are seated. There is chicken ( white or dark quarter ) or tenders and wings. Nice beer selection while you wait for a table. Restaurant was very family orientated with... More
