I cannot review because the restaurant closed March 2014. this was really time consuming to let you know that this restaurant is no longer in business.

Mercifully, the Department closed this spring. Owner Derek Brenczewski and his wife who owned the establishment have moved to Antigua according to local news reports

It is now closed, probably because it was just average and pricey. It was a tale of 2 places you walked into a cool vibe bar and then they sat u in a dark stuffy room. So much potential.

For all of you making comments......First of all The Department did not close in December it closed March 15th, 2014....Secondly it did not close due to lack of business....It closed because the landlord of the building would not work out a lease with the owners of the restaurant and served a 10 eviction notice and gave the lease to someone... Closed December 2013. Food sucked. Had dinner there 3 - 4 times in last 5 years. Food sucked each time.

We had pre-theater reservations at The Department on March 21. I went on line to check their menu for seafood options for lent and could no longer find the website. I found a Facebook page with a customer comment indicating that the restaurant had unceremoniously closed without notice earlier in the month. I tried calling to confirm my reservation and... More

The department is a great idea and location for a much needed Resturant in Joliet. The food is a little over priced for the selection and quality. It's an average Resturant and has the potential to be more.

The food was very good and let's not even get started on the Peanut Butter Pie! Delicious. The night I was there there was a party and they were a little loud but overall the experience was enjoyable. Great food, good service.

This is our favorite place to eat. The food is fantastic. The restaurant is decorated to honor Firefighters thus the name The Department. The wait staff is wonderful and the desserts are to die for. You can't go wrong at this restaurant. We have never had a bad meal.
