Your basic burger and heart attack onion rings

If you need a burger, fries and the greasiest, most delicioius onion ring cake, this is your place. This is more of the family restaurant. Lots of older folks and younger families here, not the non-pilling taking cholesterol-watching crowd. Their other local on Harms is more the drinking bar crowd... read more

Excellent service and very good food. Best Lobster Bisque EVER!! Many nice specials in honor of Mother's Day and all very reasonably priced.

We rolled into Hackney's with a large chunk of our family in tow...all 28 of them, with nearly half of that number hungry teenagers looking for a good meal. Mission accomplished. The folks at Hackney's didn't bat an eye at the large number of people, they just set up a couple of large tables and it was all good. Our... More

I sometimes am queried by friends and co-workers about why I Iike eating at Hackney's in spite of it's great reputation for traditionally (high calorie/fat content burgers), onion rings and fries. The answer is that Hackney's on Lake manages to have a highly inclusive menu serving great traditional American-Irish pub food but includes lower calorie meals including veggie burgers, salads... My friend and I came in from the far northwest (Woodstock, IL) and while we had some time to kill decided to eat at Hackney's. It had been 20 years or more for me, and 10 some for her. The atmosphere hasn't changed (to my delight), warm woody and like being in someone's library. The servers are friendly and helpful.... More

There are some great menu options at Hackney's, and I find that any of the burgers are done just right and there is nothing like eating a burger and a loaf of onions on the patio in front. The nice thing is that you can get an amount of onions that is manageable as they have three different sizes. This... More

We went on a Friday because it was lent. We were prepared for a wait, but to our surprise we must have come at the EXACT moment of the of the exodus, as there was no wait. Timing is everything, as the manager observed as he seated us! The service was great, the fish was fantastic and the drinks were... More

We've been coming here for years, and enjoy the great food and atmosphere. It does get packed on the weekends and parking can be difficult. The onion brick is a specialty, and a must to order when you're there.

Whenever I am in the area this place is a must stop location. If you like onions then get the loaf to share with your table-mate. The burger on their home made dark rye is my main go-to meal here. Some day I will have to try something else.... maybe.

Highly rated by friends and relatives, we came for a family lunch. There's not much to recommend this place. Slow service, surly waiter, mediocre food. They used to have a good reputation, but have fallen off the charts in my opinion.
