Burgers and onion loafs

There are some great menu options at Hackney's, and I find that any of the burgers are done just right and there is nothing like eating a burger and a loaf of onions on the patio in front. The nice thing is that you can get an amount of onions that is manageable as they have three different sizes... read more

My friend and I came in from the far northwest (Woodstock, IL) and while we had some time to kill decided to eat at Hackney's. It had been 20 years or more for me, and 10 some for her. The atmosphere hasn't changed (to my delight), warm woody and like being in someone's library. The servers are friendly and helpful.... More

We went on a Friday because it was lent. We were prepared for a wait, but to our surprise we must have come at the EXACT moment of the of the exodus, as there was no wait. Timing is everything, as the manager observed as he seated us! The service was great, the fish was fantastic and the drinks were... More

We've been coming here for years, and enjoy the great food and atmosphere. It does get packed on the weekends and parking can be difficult. The onion brick is a specialty, and a must to order when you're there.

Whenever I am in the area this place is a must stop location. If you like onions then get the loaf to share with your table-mate. The burger on their home made dark rye is my main go-to meal here. Some day I will have to try something else.... maybe.

Highly rated by friends and relatives, we came for a family lunch. There's not much to recommend this place. Slow service, surly waiter, mediocre food. They used to have a good reputation, but have fallen off the charts in my opinion.

Haven't been there for 40 years since I left the Chicago area. What a wonderful treat to come back & find the same great foods. Don't miss the onion rings - they're unique & delicious.

We went for dinner on Saturday night, and were told the wait would be 15 minutes for our 6 person group. An hour later, we were finally seated, as they don't take reservations into account when they guess the wait times. Service once at the table was good, and the food was delicious- especially the pretzel burger. Also had the... More

Been to Hackney's on Lake (and the Original Hackney's on Harms) a zillion times over the past 30 years, and it's always a valid dining suggestion. Though I prefer the small Harms restaurant personally, the big Lake St restaurant has more room and offers more indoor seating that is possible int he old place. I think the corned beef was... More

We don't get it. Came here because we had a coupon for $10 off. The house wine was awful, we asked for a burger rare and no fries, and got a well done burger with fries.served on cold bread with blue cheese that wasn't melted.it seems that people go there just for the deep fried onions. The waiter could care... More
