We were here on a Saturday for a late lunch. When we arrived there was 1 couple ahead of us and 3 - 4 empty tables, but not yet cleaned. No one greeted us and at first there just seemed to be one waiter hurrying around looking extremely frenzied although there weren't really that many tables. It is small. Then... More

This is an unusual little bistro a bit up the hill from most of Galena's attractions. French and German fare, authentically prepared. Although there are lots of good restaurants in Galena if we're only there for one night it's always Fritz and Frites.

Small comfy place with a really great beer and wine selection. The Frites truly are special. French & German cuisine. The prices are spot on. Service is exceptional. Parking a bit challenging but so worth it on Main Street the end of town. Owner looks and cooks like the late Charlie Trotter. It totally deserves it's exceptional rating and reputation.

We stopped here for lunch on Sunday. The menu was quite diverse with representations of each style of food. We had the crepes, a turkey-lingonberry sandwich, and braunswager sandwich. They were all very good, but not really as creative as I had imagined. The waitress was very nice and helpful. The room was fairly small for a restaurant, but nicely... More

Our first time trying escargot- and it was delicious. Great mixture of French/German cuisine and drinks! After walking past this place on many occasions- I will no more! This will become a MUST stop location for future visits!

We were in Galena, IL, for our daughter-in-law's birthday and booked this restaurant 5 days in advance. We had a group of 6 adults, so I am glad we made reservations. Most of us had Wiener Schnitzel and we were amazed at how wonderfully it was prepared. They meat was tender and the breading was perfect. The service was good... More

The Schnitzel was nice, the red cabbage very good and the spaetzel fine. And portion size generous! I was all ready for a very good review (for a small town restaurant) ... but then came dessert. Really? Hours old coffee, tea water not hot enough to brew. That's not ok -- and something that should be done right! The dessert,... More

My wife and I were in Galena to celebrate her birthday recently, and upon arriving just past noon, we headed straight for Fritz and Frites. It is located at the end of town if you enter from route 20, so unless you "go the distance" to the end of the downtown area you'll miss it. We've dined here before and... More
