The food was a blend of Gaelic and traditional. They have a traditional Shepherd’s Pie made with Irish bistro gravy, fish and chips and of course, corned beef. For starters they offer a popular Galena appetizer cheese curds - deep fried cheese with ranch dressing. A stand-alone appetizer is the Irish nachos – a huge plate of corned beef, Swiss... More

I and a group of family and friends decided to give this place a try after touring the distillery across the highway. The atmosphere and decor reminded me of a true Irish venue. I ordered the Irish Nachos for my dinner option. The dish was filling and unusual but can't really be raved about. My dinner mates were satisfied with... More

I have been to the pub a number of times (5 or 6) and have always enjoyed the "true" Irish atmosphere, authentic food and on Fridays the entertainment (Irish Dancers). The drink selection is typical of similar pubs over the world. My wife and daughter in law have the Sheppard's pie each time and consider it the best they have... More

Went two nights in a row since we stayed at the hotel. I have been here before multiple times and I would have given it 4 stars but the food was just not that good and the service, even though friendly, was really slow. Had the Sheppard pie and the portion was small for what you paid for it and... More

Cold pints, authentic food, and on occasion, excellent entertainment make this Irish bar a wonderful place to stop and grab a bite or a pint.

The bar has a lot of charm and old-world feel to it. The décor is perfect for an Irish pub. The service was terrible! Everyone we encountered had a bad attitude. Waitresses/bartenders looked annoyed and inconvenienced. Drinks were overpriced and full of ice. We were very disappointed.

I had a small wedding at the Irish Cottage and the reception at Frank O'Dowd's Pub. I booked everything sight-unseen. John, the general manager made the process easy- dinner menus, appetizers...I was surprised at all the options. I knew my party was small compared to some of the large weddings they have at the hotel, and I figured we would... More

Love the Shepard's Pie and Irish Nachos. Lots of great beers on tap! Service is always excellent and the Fri/Sat .free entertainment can't be beat!

We ate at Frank O'Dowd's once during our few days in Galena and found it to be a very pleasant atmosphere with a nice staff and decent food. The on tap beers and ales were a really nice selection and variety. I would like to suggest that they add some more vegetarian choices and maybe ramp up the wine selection... More

We enjoyed our experience at Frank O'Dowd's and only wish we had dined later so we could have seen more of the live entertainment. We had made reservations for 6:30 and the live entertainment began about an hour later. The food was good. My wife had the fish and chips and I had the chicken kabobs. Both were flavorable. The...
