This Place is Golden!

The decor absolutely sucks. Hanging, dusty, plastic roses in baskets on the ceiling. A huge, fake swordfish on the wall. A clock that reads backwards. However the food is great! The waitresses are terrific! They offer a full-court press: soup, salad and a meal with veggies and potatoes any... read more

First time visitor and it was OK. The waitress was surly and kinda of rude (she walked with a limp so maybe she was in pain). The price of meals are in the high end so I opted for the steer burger which came with a lot of fries. For an appetizer, I had the French onion soup which I... More

For a casual "old school" steak house, Golden Steer delivers every time. The steaks are always cooked to perfection, and the French onion soup is a classic favorite. You can't go wrong in this neighborhood staple for a great meal. Go with friends, family, your significant other, or even by yourself, and enjoy a steak just the way you like... More

Was there on a Wednesday, got seated right away. Ordered drinks, then food. I had smelts which were delicious. Others had baked onion soup and loved it. We were 4 ladies so we didn't order a full dinner. I would go back and try their steaks which is what I have heard they are noted for.

If you are looking for a restaurant with decor that flashes you back to the 1970's, this is your place. And that is exactly what we were looking for.... a reasonably priced local kind of place that is not striving for a hipster population. Everyone enjoyed the food and we had a variety from sandwiches (burger/reuben) to fish (tilapia) to... More

This place is known for their beef, and it is consistently awesome, but don't underestimate their chicken! I had the Francesca last night - wonderful! Their French onion soup is simply a must. A small intimate setting, I definitely recommend getting a reservation if you plan to go. It takes us over and hour to get there, but it's well... More

We grew up in the area and I have been coming back here for 30 years. Very reasonable prices, Great Food. Start with the French Onion Soup, hot, cheesy, absolutely delish! I've NEVER had a bad meal, but some dishes stand our, Filet (HUGE and tender) Pork chops (You get 3, one to take home) Fried shrimp (Crisp and yummy)... More

Got a recommendation for this place from a bartender in our hotel. 1st the good. The shrimp de jonghi appetizer was excellentl as was the French onion soup. The house salad was simple yet crisp and well dressed. Now the bad. The music was a radio station that was too loud for a dining area and just inappropriate. My wife... More

I'll let the others speak to the food which is terrific with one glaring omission: the Shrimp DeJonghe. This appetizer is apparently a Chicago creation. No matter. I'd have it regarless of it's origins. Shrimp casserole crusted with garlic and sherry breadcrumbs and a hint of lemon. Luckily they bring a loaf of warm bread for the drippin's. No doggy... More
