Overall nice experience

Was there on a Wednesday, got seated right away. Ordered drinks, then food. I had smelts which were delicious. Others had baked onion soup and loved it. We were 4 ladies so we didn't order a full dinner. I would go back and try their steaks which is what I have heard they are noted for.

If you are looking for a restaurant with decor that flashes you back to the 1970's, this is your place. And that is exactly what we were looking for.... a reasonably priced local kind of place that is not striving for a hipster population. Everyone enjoyed the food and we had a variety from sandwiches (burger/reuben) to fish (tilapia) to... More

This place is known for their beef, and it is consistently awesome, but don't underestimate their chicken! I had the Francesca last night - wonderful! Their French onion soup is simply a must. A small intimate setting, I definitely recommend getting a reservation if you plan to go. It takes us over and hour to get there, but it's well... More

We grew up in the area and I have been coming back here for 30 years. Very reasonable prices, Great Food. Start with the French Onion Soup, hot, cheesy, absolutely delish! I've NEVER had a bad meal, but some dishes stand our, Filet (HUGE and tender) Pork chops (You get 3, one to take home) Fried shrimp (Crisp and yummy)... More

Got a recommendation for this place from a bartender in our hotel. 1st the good. The shrimp de jonghi appetizer was excellentl as was the French onion soup. The house salad was simple yet crisp and well dressed. Now the bad. The music was a radio station that was too loud for a dining area and just inappropriate. My wife... More

I'll let the others speak to the food which is terrific with one glaring omission: the Shrimp DeJonghe. This appetizer is apparently a Chicago creation. No matter. I'd have it regarless of it's origins. Shrimp casserole crusted with garlic and sherry breadcrumbs and a hint of lemon. Luckily they bring a loaf of warm bread for the drippin's. No doggy... More

Now that I have moved from Chicago to Dallas on each trip back I think hard about which of the many favorite restaurants I want to visit. Last week it was Golden Steer on maybe my 8th visit over the last 20 years. It is just so good and so consistent. Here are six reasons why you want to come... More

Don't let the location and side entrance intimidate you. Warm friendly hostess and wait staff treat you like family. Regulars all dine here frequently. Superb French onion soup, prime rib to die for, and service so attentive you think you were part of the family. Decor never changed but that's ok. Look for the backward clock on the wall. One... Great food, staff is OK, atmosphere a throw back to the 50s, in a good way. They used to call this food 'stick to your ribs." Try the French Onion soup.
