Very good but has the potential to be excellent

Wonderful food. My friend and I totally enjoyed our meals. She had the salmon; I had the beef tenderloin. OMG. Mine was amazing. The meat was so tender and the flavors were fantastic. But the menu is limited and the dining room feels more like a cafeteria than a Fine Food establishment. Tablecloths... read more

I have been to the Hearth Restaurant three times since its opening mid November. The restaurant is in a hotel. A quiet cocktail lounge is on one side of the entry. The restaurant is on the other side. Many beer and wine choices. The food choices were varied. The problem was what to select. I have tasted short ribs, salmon... More

Chef Woody is a brilliant chef. The 4 meals our table ordered were highly recommended and simply delicious. Ambiance was light with Christmas decor nicely done. Desert was tasty and light.

We have enjoyed several dinners at Quince over the past couple of years. We have always gone as a couple - this is definitely not a "family" restaurant. The food is very good and on the more creative side. There are always non-mainstream protein options (wild boar, venison, etc.), which makes choosing dishes exciting. While there are not many choices,... More

Our daughter chose this to celebrate her grad school graduation, with one of the criteria being a place that was quiet. It is a lovely, elegant setting where it is easy to carry on a conversation. Service was excellent. The menu is very small and I did not expect to find something I wanted, but it did not disappoint. The... More

Some may say it’s a stretch, but Quince reminded me very much of Les Nomades. It may have been the laid-back ambiance, the sophistication of the food, or the friendly knowledgeable waitstaff. But Quince has a Les Nomades quality. Upon entering the Hotel Homestead Hotel, we felt a little disoriented—it’s a hotel after all--but quickly located the entrance and were... More

Outstanding food in a quiet, elegant space in the Homestead. A small but exceedingly well prepared menu with attentive service. I enjoyed the Butternut Squash appetizer, Skate and White Chocolate Cremeux for dessert. My wife feasted on the Greens, Venison and Chocolate Mousse with the generously poured wine pairings. Everything was exceptional! Clearly one of the best spots for an... More

We went on a Wednesday night to celebrate my partner's birthday. It was close to perfect for us. The restaurant is in a smallish, paneled room across from the check-in desk at The Homestead, a 75-year-old small hotel on a quiet street in Evanston. There is nothing new or trendy in the hotel, the restaurant, or the furnishings. A small... More

We have eaten at many fine restaurants in Evanston and had heard great things about Quince. It was at best disappointing. The best value we had was the bottle of wine at $40.00. The prices were outrageous for the portions and quality. Three of us had the parsnip soup, which was just ok, I had the white shrimp, which was... More

We have been all over the world but our home town restaurant is still is still special. The menu is deceptively simple with one word in bold followed by an ingredient list, but don't be fooled. It may say duck, 2 or 3 veg but will not mention each sauce and treat dotted under and around. Dessert may says grapes... More
