I ate here for New Years Eve seven months ago. It was amazing. I compared this place to Charlie Trotters. So we go on 7/25/15. I love octopus and I love duck--that's what I ate on New Years. So I order the same thing. It was horrible. How can this happen? The octopus was over cooked and the white beans... More

4 friends had dinner. 2 had skirt steak - 1 had short ribs & left it mainly untouched & unpleasant. (the order was definitely my description of "short ribs" Just a blob of beef. 1 had fish. & politely didn't mention satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Menu suggested that there were vegetables served on dinner plate accompanying the meals.however they were so... More

At La Campagnola it's all about the food, and it is glorious! The chef is Italian, the cuisine hence authentic; the atmosphere and service are casual, lovely and welcoming, so that nothing detracts from the main event. We had a couple of salads to start, a kale gorgonzola, and a beet mozzarella, both perfect. Then our entree pastas -- papardelle... More

My wife and my 6 year old daughter joined me for a fantastic dinner last night. All courses were memorable. We had our choice of a few tables and selected one in a corner by the bar. The wait staff was always on top of our needs, many times without asking. Truly enjoyed it and would return the next time... More

We love this place and its welcoming owner and friendly, unpretentious staff. We usually get salad and pasta. The boar ragout is a favorite and the trout has been excellent. The only wish we had is that they would change a portion of the menu from time to time. The dinner menu hasn't added or subtracted an entree in the... More

This is probably the best restaurant in Evanston - even worth a drive from elsewhere. The food and service are consistently great. The owner Steve and his staff are warm and efficient. I would recommend the trout, the steak, short ribs, arugula or kale salad and pretty much anything else. It's small (cozy) and reservations are highly recommended. This is... More

Went to 5:30 sitting for New Year's '14 with wife and daughter. They had a four course meal. Each course had about five picks. I have eaten at Trotter's four times. I think this meal was just as good but with the casual atmosphere. One of the best seafood salads I have had. Wife's beet salad was fantastic. Lobster risotto... More

I don't know if you would "happen" across this place naturally as it's location is a bit further South from the action of Evanston, but it is worth it! The space is perfectly intimate and the service is attentive without being pushy. The menu options are just enough. I can't stand when they try to hard with traditional Italian fare... More
