We sat outside since it was pleasant-they have only four small tables in front of the restaurant. If you're lucky to get one, grab it - it's always pleasant to eat al fresco. We had the sweet fried plantains & fried okra to start. The appetizer portions are large enough to share. The plantains were very good. I'm a fan... More

We had a group of 7 for breakfast and everyone enjoyed themselves. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, grits, french toast were all done perfectly. Be adventuresome and order something unusual like jambalaya eggs. Good service too. Interesting decor!

We went to Dixie Kitchen for Sunday breakfast and found it to be a very enjoyable change from the usual fare. Both my wife and I had one of the specials with poached eggs. These were served with cornbread, ham, grits, and interesting sauces. Would recommend it for a change of pace.

We live in the neighborhood and eat here often. It's our standby before the movies or strolling through downtown Evanston. Waitstaff is always friendly, food is always good and delivered promptly (important if you're pressed for time), and prices are reasonable.

I first discovered Dixie Kitchen during a 9-day visit back home. It was a wonderful treat after living abroad. The food is packed with flavor and the fried okra is amazing. Sometimes there's a wait, but it's worth it! Great spot for brunch!

Stopped here for lunch during a business trip after hearing good feedback from friends who stopped here before. Weekday lunch crowd was very light and we didn't have much competition for our servers' attention. I ordered their fried chicken with sides of mashed sweet potatoes and homemade mac and cheese. Both of my traveling companions had sandwiches with French fries.... More

We went there for brunch, but then I saw fried chicken and had to get it - delicious, as well as the sides, greens and red beans and rice. Great spicy Bloody Mary!

This place was mentioned on chowhound and was two blocks from my hotel, the Hilton Orrington, so I tried it out this morning. I had an unusual version of eggs benedict which contained fried green tomatoes and corn bread. Included were a side of cajun potatoes and a side of grits -- each also out of the ordinary and delicious.... More

Having eaten lunch, brunch and dinner at this restaurant, I can say that I have never been disappointed. The Cajun style food is always well prepared, tasty, spicy if you want it and served with a smile. I highly recommend trying Dixie Kitchen.

Sometimes I wonder why such a simple thing, like going to a wonderfully charming spot such as the Dixie Kitchen, takes so long to accomplish? Dixie Kitchen accomplishes the task of feeling honest, authentic, and relaxed while serving up Southern and NOLA fair in a similar fashion. Direct and without pretense. Right down to a simple order of coffee and... More
