Lunch Karma

Driving to Chicago, we checked out trip advisor to find a lunch place to set our GPS to on a side trip to Evanston. That place ended up being closed. We asked for a pizza place and passed Dixie kitchen along the way. We stopped and checked it out. Decor: old general store ad signs on the walls and... read more

This restaurant has always been a favorite destination for our family when we come to visit our daughter at Northwestern. I was therefore disappointed at the response I received when I called to try to arrange for a private dinner for my daughter's graduation. I explained that I wanted to have a graduation dinner for 30-40 people. I was told... More

I just love it when you go in an eatery and people treat you good. The greens were fantastic which opened my palate to be ready for the best southern made meal in town. Excellent place to relax or meet with friends or even have a business lunch. Great food in a great community. This is a take it easy... More

Checkered tablecloths, johnny cakes, and great beignets....these all add to the Southern hospitality of Dixie Kitchen. Very friendly staff keep the crowded diners satisfied. Foods for the spicy foodies as well as the more tame.

I've visited Dixie Kitchen several times and it never disappoints. Before you get there, you need to have an attitude of patience, knowing that it will be worth the wait. The place is small and does not take reservations. The entrance is also small, so on a recent Saturday night we were squeezed in there for a half-hour before we... More

I used to go several times a year but my last visit was not pleasant. Some areas need some work and then it will be great again.

From the Binets to Southern style coffee it spot on. Service is good and atmospher is like their man Bait Shop old. Portions are generous and menu items are right from Bourbon Street.

Our daughter recently moved to Evanston and we have been exploring the restaurants. We like Cajun food, so this place looked interesting. All our dishes were mediocre. Nothing really stood out. We tried the beignets for dessert. They were awful, overcooked and greasy. So far we have not been to a restaurant in Evanston we would go back to for... More

Ordered the gumbo and it was very nice. A lot of shrimp and sausage. Large portions! Get the gumbo and plantain. The heat spice and sweetness goes well. Fried chicken was very good...crunchy, spicy and half of the chicken. Yum. Finally, staff were very friendly and attentive

When I originally moved from Chicago after 10 years to Evanston, I was bracing myself for a bit of a letdown in terms of the restaurant scene. While Chicago is still the clear winner, there are some standouts in Evanston that hold their own. A friend of mine (fellow Chicago native) recommended I checkout Dixie kitchen as it made him...
