Having eaten lunch, brunch and dinner at this restaurant, I can say that I have never been disappointed. The Cajun style food is always well prepared, tasty, spicy if you want it and served with a smile. I highly recommend trying Dixie Kitchen.

Sometimes I wonder why such a simple thing, like going to a wonderfully charming spot such as the Dixie Kitchen, takes so long to accomplish? Dixie Kitchen accomplishes the task of feeling honest, authentic, and relaxed while serving up Southern and NOLA fair in a similar fashion. Direct and without pretense. Right down to a simple order of coffee and... More

I go to Dixie at least once a week....... Why? First the breakfasts are top notch. Always well prepared. In the morning this place is a bit of an oasis for me. The music that they play is wonderful. The coffee is great. The service is excellent. Lunch is also wonderful. Not as peaceful as they are always rather crowded.... More

Had to hedge my bets, this year - not sure I'd get downtown to my favorite and overly populated Cajun joint on Fat Tuesday - so......off to Evanston and the Dixie Kitchen for Friday dinner! Been a few years since I'd come down for a taste of the South, and not much has changed. Warm welcome, personable waitress, hot johnny-cakes... More

It's a small place. Bait shop atmosphere. Service is typically attentive. My wife lives the fried catfish and jumbalaya. I'm a bug fan of the fried chicken and gumbo. Nice spice to the gumbo and the chicken is typically very juicy. Last time the chicken was overdone and a bit dry though. The fried green tomatoes are a must appetizer!

The food was very good. The collard greens were excellent but not traditional for me. Usually meaty with salt pork and perfect drenched in hot sauce. This was savory with a bit of sweet, layers of spice and flavor, and a good dose of spicy heat that was definitely not plain old Louisiana brand hot sauce. The lunch special half... More

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've enjoyed the food here for all three meals. I particularly love the jambalaya. The service is pretty solid too.

You're driving through back roads in Louisiana or the Deep South and you come across a restaurant filled with old memorabilia of "days gone by". Now park your car in downtown Evanston and walk into the Dixie Kitchen. Though it was a busy Friday night, the service was good and there were continued inquiries as to whether we needed anything... Met some friends here for a late lunch and wasn’t disappointed. The place is cute, decorated with old posters and knick-nacks. The menu is pretty extensive, with something for everyone, from southern favorites (like fried green tomatoes - yum!) to burgers. I had the Carolina BBQ pork sandwich and mashed sweet potatoes. Both were delicious. A friend had the side... More

Evanston has quite a few excellent restaurants, but this is one of our favorites. We had the Shrimp & Grits, the Jerked Catfish, and Fried Green Tomatoes. All of these dishes were as good as we have had anywhere while traveling through The South, or in Louisiana.
