This was a good restaurant and a fine experience overall. I had the bouillabaisse, which I normally adore and, while good, it wasn't worth the cost ($42 or so). My son had the Rack of Lamb, which he inhaled, so very good. The food is very good, I was more than a bit put off at the end. We waited,... More

It's a white tablecloth restaurant with friendly, unpretentious servers. Yes, they do have red meat, but why would you order it in a place called Oceanique?? We had one of their appetizer specials: oysters on the half shell for only a dollar each, followed by a delicious and complex lobster dish ($46). The desserts and beverages were expensive, in my... We went for the New Year's Eve Special. I hadn't been here in a few years because it is a litte expensive and was not disappointed. Great food, great service and the wine choices are outstanding. It's truly a special special occasion place. The place is small and tables are close together so it's not privatley romantic

We were a bit reluctant to try Oceanique because we had read mixed reviews and the place isn't cheap. We decided to go for it though when our daughter and her husband were in town and they don't eat meat. So glad we did! The place is great almost every way. We had a five course tasting menu (really six... More

Oceanique has excellent, innovative French-style food with, as its name implies, a particular focus on seafood. The set menu is excellent, though often choices are limited. Ordering off the regular menu is delicious but expensive. The wine list is as expensive as it is expansive. The good news is that you can get an absolutely fantastic bottle of wine. The... More

Tables are very tight making it feel like a french bistro. We had the 5 course tasting menu which we bought on line. We were treated as regular guests and despite a slow start on getting drinks to start, the rest of the evening the service was great. The lobster salad and soup starters were tasty and seasoned nicely. The... More

Nice room, professional servers. Good quality ingredients. That said, it's a bit pretentious and severely overpriced. The food was generally uninspired and the sauces were dull at best. I wasn't too impressed.

Visited this establishment with relatives from the UK that were in Chicago for their first time. We selected this restaurant as my daughter goes to Northwestern. Had used the Groupon for 4 of us and then the other in our party (with special dietary needs) ordered off the menu. From beginning to end the courses were well-timed, attractive and delicious.... It's not often that restaurants stay in business for 25 years. And Oceanique has managed ot reinvent themselves. We had a later reservation on a Saturday night. Despite being quite full, the service was outstanding. Our server clearly knew the menu and what dishes would work together. He also provided very nice advice on wine. Particularly notable was that staff... More

I really, really, really wanted to be wowed by this place! My honey wanted to go there for his birthday and I had read amazing reviews...until...I walked in the door and this high-end establishment smelled "Fishy"! Not fishy like 'oh, wow I'm having fish tonight'; more like fishy as in bad fish! I even walked out to the car to... More
