Four of us dined at this small plates type restaurant, where the small plates aren't all that small. Everything, from the wait staff to the wine, was outstanding. We shared many dishes. The standouts were the corn soup, the bacon tacos, the pommes frites, the short ribs and the mussels. One dish was better than the rest. I will definitely... More

Ate here 3 times. Interesting tapas type offerings. Good beer selection and great drinks. Service is good and the atmosphere is fun and up beat yet you can ignore it and have intimate dinner. Love the empanadas and the mac and cheese. Of course the sliders are the deal of the day and always wonderful. Sitting at the bar is... More

We enjoyed a great dinner here with colleagues from work. We ordered a number of different dishes and shared them. Highlights were the bacon wrapped dates, the Asian ribs, the lobster roll, and the crab cakes. Beer selection was good and the margaritas were delicious. We also ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and requested a fried egg on top and they... More

The last time we tried to eat at The Cellar we couldn't get in. They don't take reservations and there was a long wait. This time it wasn't a problem. It was a Monday night in the summer! Service was pretty good but not the best ever. Some of our choices were great, others just OK, and one was a... More

The Cellar came highly recommended through Tripadvisor. I've been to the Stained Glass, Bistro Bordeaux, and other places in Evanston. The Cellar did not live up to the high ratings during my visit. Reason: Less-than-forthcoming wait staff that just went through the motions; and food that was ok but not unique nor (I had four dishes to try a variety).... More

I had a great dinner here with my boyfriend, aunt, and uncle, and found the food to be a notch above your usual wine bar small plates. What a pleasant surprise! It's a fairly small restaurant, and nearly every table was full at 730 pm on a Monday. We grabbed a high top by the bar, and I enjoyed a... More

We hosted a quite birthday party for 8. We were disappointed with the service from start to finish. The person at the door was annoyed by one of us thinking we had reservations. They don't take them but the 1st first person in our group to arrive didn't know that. Dinner service was equally insulting. After our several desserts arrived... More

We were going to a movie but missed it due to traffic, had heard about the cellar a few days earlier so gave it a try. Service very relaxed, prompt, nice decor. Probably 20 tables of 2 and 4. Had lobster bisque and ceasar salad. Both good. Mini burger's and lamb burger's also tasty but over cooked. We would go... More

We are fortunate to have been to many #10 restaurants. At some point it is difficult to differentiate among all of the #10's. But like the volume knob in "Spinal Tap," we have found an "11." Our daughter picked this restaurant since it was rated #1 in Evanston. Skeptically, we went, not really expecting that much. What a surprise. The... More

The Cellar is my new favorite restaurant in Evanston, the city where I live. Why? The food . . . The food . . . The food. The menu consists of small plates, which is always more interesting than regular entrees. Two small plates is enough to satisfy most appetites. And portions are generous. The micro burger is a delicious... More
