Good German Style Cuisine

Great German style cuisine. Staff is friendly and menu is vast. I tried the Vienna platter that had duck, which was moist and delicious, and Wienerschnitzel. Even the sauerkraut was amazing. A throwback to the days when places like Elmhurst were cities and not suburbs; when people would leave the city for a Sunday drive out to the "country." When that was, I don't know, but that's the feeling I get from this restaurant. Interesting décor; plenty of variety as far as food choices. I only ordered a salad (which was... More

The back-half of the place is like an old supper club (which isn't a knock). The front is more raucous and sports bar-ish. Choose your atmosphere accordingly. We ate there on Friday night so we availed ourselves of the fish fry special (all you can eat but was stuffed after the first helping). Good eats-- the special came with fresh... More

My sister and I went for dinner on a Sunday evening before a lecture we attended at Elmhurst College. We loved the old world atmosphere but the dinner I had was one of the worst restaurant meals I've ever had. I ordered the Bohemian Platter. Horrible. ($18) The soup was tepid. The salad bar was tired looking and not replenished.... More

I'm glad we had a reservation because our table for 8 wouldn't have been seated. Our entrees came with a salad AND a soup. I had the steak and crab legs. Unfortunately, they put the crab legs on top of my steak, so the steamy water created a pool on my steak. Not exactly the texture I was looking for.... More

We've lived in the area for years and finally checked out Mack's after a friend mentioned that it is a favorite of his. Tried it out and gracious, it feels like another world. The atmosphere is Germanic / Bohemian and the range of foods on the menus is wonderful. We'll definitely be coming back - again and again. It's a... More

Fun place to eat and relax in an atmosphere that reminds one of the old Chicago days. Service was wonderful even on a very busy night. Food was very good with large portions. Craft beers were available and they had a nice choice. I would strongly recommend you make reservations at this popular restaurant.

Visited for the first time, based on all the good reviews on here. And the reviews were right. Great selection, delicious food (and reasonably priced), friendly service and a warm, clean environment.

This is a unique place with a great ambiance. The Sunday brunch is great and very affordable. Old style food with good service and an interesting decor. Fun for all and the food is great.

You can see the other reviews posted, but nobody has mentioned one of their best specialties, Bohemian pork, sauerkraut and dumplings! But be careful! I am a pretty big guy with a very good appetite. This dinner comes in a regular and large portion size, which is too much for me! I go regularly for this, Sunday's for their great... More
