Took a friend to a new place.

This was my friends first trip to Al's Cafe & Creamery; she was fascinated. Food was excellent, as was was the service. The thick creamy and large enough to share shake was decadent. We ate like children having "dessert" with the meal. The historic setting was like a step back in time allowing the... read more

We eat at Al's at least once a week. We sometimes have lunch and sometimes dinner. We go by ourselves or take friends and family. We eat there regularly and on special occasions. We appreciate the food, the service and the local / old fashioned atmosphere.

Busy place, looks like the locals know where to get a meal in outdoor venue. Nice salmon dinners. Very accommodating to my diet needs by substituting olive oil for butter. Desserts looked great (ice cream sundaes) but too full! Great service.

I have eaten at Al's for several years and at various seasons. No matter when we go (sometimes along with a group of up to 23 ) I have never had a bad experience, In the seasons of good weather, there is a brisk al fresco service, In other seasons you have to climb the stairs to an upper area.... Had lunch at Al's Cafe and sat outside under the umbrella tables. Service was excellent and food was very good. I had the shrimp appetizer as my entree and it was enough. My friend had soup and sandwich and loved the beef sandwich. We just love their outside dining area.

Al's Cafe & Creamery is excellent in so many ways. The food is always done perfectly, I love the clam chowder soup and the reuben sandwich, and the presentation is great too. A non fussy place with wonderful offerings. The waitstaff is consistent and the owners are hard-working, talented and friendly. And the malts are the best of the best.... More

I love the beautiful old building Al's is located in. The food is good and the ice cream drinks are amazing! In the summer, it is fun to sit outside on the patio. Al's is an authentic Elgin experience!

Al's is in a charming historic building in downtown Elgin, IL decorated with many authentic antiques. Menu items include a wide variety of salads and sandwiches, as well as dinner entrees. Also some nice looking desserts and their famous "not-to-be-forgotten" malts. There is a nice outside area, but there were bees about on the day we were there. Service was... More

This was a "find" as my wife and I had just arrived in Elgin, Illinois while traveling to Wisconsin to see relatives. It was a chilly night so the attractive patio near the entrance door was not feasible. Once inside, we were brought upstairs to a quiet table near a window. Then the fun began. The menu left us having... More

Beautiful historic building is only eclipsed by the glory that is the chocolate / marshmallow malt. If I had three thumbs - they'd all be up!!
