Love this place. I go quite a bit and am never disappointed! Love their sandwiches and ice cream. Also love the history.

This little place has one of the best salad I have ever had. The sandwiches are also awesome. I'm yet to try something I didn't absolutely love. Ice cream is the best.

We went out for my friend's birthday on Saturday and boy was I happily surprised by al's cafe! It's a cute little place in downtown Elgin. The food was awesome and the prices are reasonable. Three of us had the salmon done differently. All were outstanding and so fresh. The other two had steak and it was tender, great portions... More

Very good variety of choices. The food preparation is well done. The decor is comfortable and the service is very fiendly. The overall experience is well worth the reasonable cost. They change the featured menue items each month, therefore you can not run out of choices.

The decor is quaint and has a historic ambience. It feels like a special occasion, even if it's just a casual lunch. I always order the Florentine sandwich. Made with sunflower seeds and 3 cheeses, it is worth the drive! My favorite sandwich in all of Elgin!

Al's Café used to be where you went and then took your kids for the best "malt" in town but it has certainly evolved to be one of the best dinner restaurants as well. The quality of their food is consistently good with some creative variations that make it well worth trying. A great place to have lunch anytime, when... More

Want to take a walk back in time when everybody knew everybody; you could walk into a resturant and say "the usual"? Well with Elgin's history displayed on the walls of Al's Cafe and Creamery and a very historical looking library upstairs, you get the warm friendly experience that the good ole days had to offer. Al's is definitely the... More

Al's creamery has the absolute best chocolate malt - menu selections are fantastic too. Every month features a new specialty, which has consistently been phenomenal.

A VERY rainy night brought a group of 10 friends to Al's. Our first visit and our server (Kyle) could not have been nicer ! Enjoyed their Schnitzel-fest and sadly I cannot say it was amazing ! Found the red cabbage to be outstanding - but only about 4 tablespoons. Spaetzel lacked any flavor and veal was tender, but surrounded... More

My family really enjoyed this cafe. Everything we ordered was very good. My husband and son had burgers, my other son had the Manhattan tuna (really tasty) and I had the Southwest Chicken Salad. I loved the guacamole! The boys also had awesome milk shakes and my husband had the carrot cake which was really fantastic. I think they added... More
