A VERY rainy night brought a group of 10 friends to Al's. Our first visit and our server (Kyle) could not have been nicer ! Enjoyed their Schnitzel-fest and sadly I cannot say it was amazing ! Found the red cabbage to be outstanding - but only about 4 tablespoons. Spaetzel lacked any flavor and veal was tender, but surrounded... More

My family really enjoyed this cafe. Everything we ordered was very good. My husband and son had burgers, my other son had the Manhattan tuna (really tasty) and I had the Southwest Chicken Salad. I loved the guacamole! The boys also had awesome milk shakes and my husband had the carrot cake which was really fantastic. I think they added... More

Al's features ribs done several different ways. I had the Jack Daniels sauce and next time will try another. Creamy cole slaw was to die for - as good as cole slaw can be. Al also features ice cream. I was too full to try it. Maybe next time. Features outdoor covered dining when weather permits. Service was really good.

My wife and I decided to go to Al's Cafe on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. They have a beautiful outdoor dining area, that was packed with customers. Unfortunately their outdoor seats do not work for those of us that are of a larger size, so we opted for the inside dining instead. They were busy inside as well but still... More

I live in Elgin and this little place is a delight. Great food, good wine, nice wait staff, pretty atmosphere. Try the chefs homemade chocolate truffles when available, this is a nice surprise!!

We eat here about once a month. Great location, great building, nice owners. I love their salads, which are generous, reasonably priced and all the dressings are delicious and homemade. The Southwest Chicken Salad is a favorite. My kids always get the Manhattan Tuna and don't even look at the menu any more. It is grilled open faced with melted... More

We had a family get together at Al's, which I'd heard about from family members; mostly about the milkshakes. They were thick and generous in a metal container, but not the best I'd ever had; a bit too smooth, maybe used soft cream instead of scooped? However, a matter of taste. Given that my introduction to Al's was through milkshakes,... More

I am usually skeptical when a small restaurant off the beaten track is so highly reviewed, so I had to check it out. Especially since the name was so unassuming. Having a greasy lunch, I was looking for a decent steak salad. So I took a chance on this one. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. Easily the best steak salad... More
