My daughter and I make the trip along I-70 between Cincinnati and Kansas City a couple of times a year, and we always time our travel to have lunch at the Firefly Grill. It's just off of I-70, but it would be worth a side trip even if you weren't driving right past it.

It has taken me awhile to write this review. Im sort of undecided on this restaurant. I'll start with the good. The food (which is the most important) was excellent. Melt in your mouth fillet and very large...also so is the price. They also have a decent wine list. They say freshly grown vegetable s that they grow(in season im... More

My husband and I stopped for dinner here as we were on our way to St Louis. It had a cool rustic-meets-modern feel, but the food was overpriced for what we received. The waitress touted the seafood being flown in each day, but the calamari just tasted like fried food, no calamari. My cesar salad was equally sub-par.

Excellent British chef earning his Stars and Stripes in Effingham at the end of the street that the Hampton Inn is on. Very good service, good wine list, and well executed menu from starters to deserts. Do not miss the fried green tomatoes. The salmon was very good. The lava cake also good. Atmosphere was friendly and welcoming with dress low... More

We set our route to revisit this restaurant on our way west. Visited the first time on a return trip and had a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Second visit was the same. Great waitstaff and interesting menu. Not inexpensive, but helps make a long driving trip a little more interesting. We will visit again next trip!

Anyone that's ever trekked I-70 between Saint Louis and Indy knows about the the Effingham exit. Go back behind the big Nike sign a 1/4 mile to the firefly grill. You won't regret it. Avoid chain store madness out by the highway. Great wine list and good beers. The place is well designed and very comfortable. Situated on a lake... More

Our waitstaff was excellent and the atmosphere was really interesting. Dishes offered are creative but expensive for the amount of food that you get. Unfortunately the steak we ordered was really, really tough. The preparation (medium rare) was spot on and the mashed potatoes were excellent. The coho salmon over pumpkin ravioli was excellent but of small proportions. This is... More

This was our second visit to Firefly Grill. The first one was so great that we had high expectations. We had a reservation - from the limited times available (this was a Thursday), we knew there must be an event in town. We arrived about ten minutes early, checking in at the front desk and our experience deteriorated. The staff... More

I would classify this place as hyped up atmosphere and advertising that doesn't live up to food standards they are trying to achieve. While the food wasn't really bad definitely not up to standards of price. Overpriced for the quality of taste, was hoping for a decent restaurant in area that could provide atmosphere and gourmet food to tantalize the... More
