This is a true old school greasy spoon hamburger joint with great shakes. Has been around since I was a kid. It's always the first stop I make when I return home to visit, sorry mom.

My family and I love this local treasure. We always get double bacon cheese burgers and cheese fries. They taste the way burgers are supposed to. All natural, made to order and very greasy. This is definitely one of my family's favorite summertime stops.

A great burger with crusty edges. The Krekel's in Mt.Zion has indoor seating. Love their fries and milk shakers.

I've lived my entire life in Decatur. Many food establishmens have come and gone. Krekels is a cornestone in D-Town. Kids grow up and leave and come to visit....where do they want to go for lunch or diner? KREKELS! There is nothing that says summer evening like a Krekels burger, fries and a lemon custard cone; or strawberry milkshake (my... More

It's a Decatur landmark. Delicious burgers & frozen custard! Friendly staff. The owners are always there working. No seating. Just carry out.

Before we went, I didn't understand how a burger and ice cream could be so outstanding. After trying the burger and ice cream I totally understood. The lemon soft serve ice cream actually was delicious and the burger was one of the best we've had in a long time. A fun afternoon outing!

Great ice cream. Good burgers. Wonderful dive. Prices are ok for burgers.. Sides seem $$$ for what they give you. Nice gem for Decatur in summertime!

I have eaten these burgers my entire life, and I must say... they are fantastic. Smashed and greasy and cooked on 450.. they are quite delicious. If you are from Decatur and have never tried one, you have lost your mind. A Vegan would like this burger it is so tasty. A must for anyone out of town to try.

I use to stop at Kreckels every day after school when commuting from Millikin University. That was 40 years ago and I still patronize. If you like thin, greasy and tasty burgers, then this is the place for you. The meat has a filler to allow the burger to be fried so thin with a unique flavor. If you like freshly... More
