I probably would rate this lower, but our group was a pain

I was in the Collinsville area for a family reunion. We are Americans of Latino descent( it plays a part in this episode). Our group consisted of 15-20 and we came here after our family dinner to have a few drinks. The building is awesome and big. It was crowded at first so it appears this is one... read more

Mediocre at best. The hostess was clueless. The chips were stale, but the salsa was okay. I ordered a California burrito, and received my fries on the outside of the burrito. They're supposed to come inside, and is advertised as such. The steak inside the burrito was dry and it took a good dose of queso to make it tolerable.... More

I had been here before 10 years ago and had recalled it having good food, so wanted to try again. We had to wait quite awhile for anyone to seat us - should have known then that they were short handed. Our food was very good - steak fajita and carnitas. We topped it off with fried ice cream too... More

We had a great experience at Zapata's. We almost didn't try it, as the parking lot looked crowded, and we figured there would be a wait, but the inside is huge and we were sat immediately. Our server was very nice and helpful. The food came out quickly and as ordered. My husband got the beef nachos; I ordered the... More

We had a group of 30 for a fun meeting on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant is setup with a room for groups but it was difficult to hear someone addressing the group due to the noise in the restaurant - even though it wasn't busy. They apparently had 2 servers assigned to us. We were in two big rows... More

Always ready for chips and salsa, I struggle to explain my disappointment with the oily or "lard-like" taste of the chips. Salsa was ok, I don't think I've ever eaten less than 5 chips at a Mexican restaurant. Unfortunately that "flavor" carried to the black beans and especially the veggie fajitas. Even the waitress was disappointed that they didn't offer... More

Went here with my husband for the lunch buffet. They have a decent selection of foods, and it is well priced at $7.99. We will be back!

We had a large group for my birthday. There was 10 adults and 6 children. The tables they put together for us was not the best set up. Only a few got chips and salsa. I finally had to ask for some. Service was slow and orders were not correct. Orders were missed. Had to ask 3 times for my... More

Most Mexican restaurants are similar, Zapata's is no different. Food was good and had flavor. Had a couple of $8 margarita's, but nothing special with them. Staff was efficient but not overly friendly. The meal was large and reasonably priced. I would go here again.

Had the fajitas. Very good, served sizzling hot. Beer was cold as was the service. I was trying to get the waiters attention but he was too busy playing or watching another staff person play the slot machines located in the restaurant. Could have been an off night and I would definitely go back if not just for the food.
