I have to try at least one African restaurant in every city. I googled Demera and mapped out the directions. It was the closest Ethiopian restaurant to my downtown hotel. I jumped on the CTA and was on my way. It was definitely worth the 26 min train ride. The restaurant was one block away from the station. The interior... More

I've never eaten Ethiopian food, but have had similar cuisine styles. What a pleasure! We went around lunch time and had the place to ourselves, so we received great service, and we were able to speak with our waitress in depth about her favorites on the menu, and she even gave us a little Ethiopian history! PLEASE try the sambussa... More

Went back a second time after learning they also offered bread that wasn't the standard sour bread. They didn't have it! Friday night too. Still stayed. Meal was good, but I don't like the sour bread. Note to management: manage. A restaurant of your quality should not run out of anything. Get a new supplier. Not everyone has a palate... More

My husband and I went to Demera on a whim tonight. I asked about the gluten free bread (I have celiac) and was told that one usually has to call ahead for the gluten free bread/crepes, but they'd see what they could do. We got the gf bread and some truly wonderful food. Next time, I'll be sure to call... More

although this restaurant has other options we chose the vegetarian platter. nine tasty dishes and unlimited breads. NOTE you eat with your hands but not an issue. as per other reviewers I don't know Ethiopian and it may be due to the unavailability of some products or as many restaurants do, vary the spices for the locals. i had no... Not an expert on Ethiopian cuisine, but really enjoyed dinner at this charming, bright restaurant. Our group of four began with the Appertizer Messob which offered a variety of appetizers; my favorite was the beef sambussa, but there was something for everyone. We then had the family style chef's platter which had everything from beef to beets on it. I'm... More

Enjoyed the nice ambience of Demera but the service was average .The food tries , but falls short of anything of real Ethiopian cuisine . For a first time experience it passes , but if you understand Ethiopian cuisine then I would think twice before spending your time at Demera .

I've had Ethiopian food before, but this place was unbelievable. Nothing was mediocre, and all dishes were unique in flavor. Although I only had six different dishes, I wouldn't not hesitate to say that anything you ordered in this restaurant would most likely be excellent. Even the coffee is amazing. They roast their own beans at the restaurant. We opted... More

That was my first experience with Ethiopian food, and I was left wanting more, but there's none where I live :-( We shared the Demera Messob platter, which had two meats and four vegetables, and we liked them all! We had fish (very tender, cooked just right), chicken and egg (tender, almost falling apart), lentils, collard greens, and spinach (can't... More
