The Gage -- don't miss it

One of my favorite Chicago restaurants, I try to stop in every time I'm in the city! Great food, great drinks, lively bistro-like atmosphere, and the service is terrific too.

We had an amazing lunch at The Gage in August 2015. We were wandering around Chicago and stumbled upon The Gage for lunch on a weekday afternoon. We were promptly seated near the bar. I had a delicious steak salad and a recommended (and also delicious) glass of red wine and my boyfriend had the Dagwood sandwich (which looked incredible.)... More

Lovely bar with very few around this part of Michigan ave. Always busy, great selection of beers including a good, well poured pint of Guinness. Great fish & chips. Decadent venison burger and great service. My go to bar in this part of city. Always bustling before a Bears game!

I had lunch here with a group of 4. We each ordered different things so we could all try them. The stone fruit appetizer with homemade farmers cheese... YUM! The beer list is fabulous as is the bubbles and wine. The venison burger was by far the best thing on the menu.

I was a little worried about the noise when I brought my group of 6 to the Gage, but the hostess found us a table that was reasonably quiet & we were able to carry on our conversations with only slightly raised voices. The server was information but not too aggressive in suggesting dishes, and everyone ended up happy with... More

Benefiting from its vicinity to the many cultural institutions on Michigan Avenue and--until recently--the relative lack of competition, The Gage has always exuded an aura of cosmopolitanism, refinement and fun. The long bar, the varied, interesting, and playful food menu, as well as impeccable service by a crowd of enthusiastic severs have made this a place not to miss when... More

We sat at the bar and had a drink after finishing a tour around the city. The waitstaff and bartenders seemed very professional and personable. There's a huge assortment of top shelf booze, and a great selection of beer on tap. It has an old school upscale pub vibe

I stopped here for dinner on a Sunday night, and, despite the restaurant being really busy, I was able to get a table right away. My server was extremely nice and helpful, and I didn't feel rushed to eat and give up my table. They seemed happy to let me take my time. The food was a bit on the... More

After spending three wonderful hours in the Chicago Art Institute, Gage was recommended to us for a late lunch. The meal was absolutely delicious. We shared a lot of food and we were extremely happy with every plate. Knock out Gumbo and Fresh Mussels. Server was warm and friendly, super smile and seemed genuinely happy to be working at Gage.... Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
