Excellent, proper, diner

Cheap, varied, home cooked, big helpings. Cops rub shoulders with families, students, blue collar workers and business men. Great for breakfast and decent for a quick evening meal. How the N American diner is supposed to be. Open 24 hours.

Portions are huge and well priced for downtown Chicago. Sometimes you crave pancakes at 8:00 pm and this is one of the few options for breakfast anytime. Though it may not look like it, it is also a hot spot for celebrities. The food is always good but never great and if you go on a Saturday or Sunday morning... More

My sister and I took our boys here while visiting Chicago last weekend. YUM! Really good. GIANT portions , so if you have teenage boys like I do? It's perfect! My son and nephew ordered pancakes.... HUGE! And they loved them! I ordered what was called " The Scrambler" OMG! GIANT portion. They gave it to me IN THE PAN!... More

People who rate a meal only by how high the food is piled on their plate may be content with the offerings here, but anyone with taste buds should avoid Tempo Cafe. Serving sizes are large enough to choke a sow, at least an unfussy sow; I ended up leaving more than half my brunch untouched as the food was... More

We happened upon this place for breakfast as we were exploring Chicago. The food is excellent with large portions of breakfast delights. We had the skillet breakfast which easily feeds two and the pancakes which were light and airy. The homemade jam is awesome! You have to go. It was n unexpected but delicious find.

We had breakfast here and it was awesome. Price was good, huge servings, and we sat out on the patio which had nice flowers all around. We got there around 10:30 so had no wait at all.

My husband lives the steak and eggs, for the taste and the portion size, and I swear by the banana buckwheat pancakes. They taste like banana bread! Big portions.

Typical hotel breakfasts are buffet style or if ordered off the menu limited, both usually less than satisfying and tend to be pricey. We found Tempo after some research for alternative places in the Magnificent Mile area. It is supurb, great coffee, plentiful servings (really a skillet serving is enough for three healthy adults but is considered a serving!), friendly... More

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
