Good overall value in Chicago:

Tempo Cafe was a good stop for quality food. The marmalade jelly is incredible. We were looking for value and we found it!

Breakfast at the Tempo lived up to its reputation. Not only were the plates (eggs benedict, French toast, oatmeal) delicious, but the accompaniments (fresh orange marmalade, warm maple syrup) were amazing. Service was good. We ate inside but by a window for the city view. Moderately priced for breakfast and a really nice treat! Highly recommend.

This appeared to be a typical family owned 24 hour diner. I arrived later in the evening, after 8 pm and it felt like I may have been the only person who was there of my own free will. The menu clearly states that refills for coffee will be charged for and substitutions will not be tolerated. The waitress took... More

This friendly cafe provided us with wonderful breakfasts all week. The morning glory pancake stack was amazing. Light fluffy pancakes and a load of fresh fruit. Coffee on tap of course and they even catered for me wanting fresh milk not UHT in my tea and refilled the hot water.

I am having breakfast in Tempo for 10 years. I've been there may be 100 times already. Top-notch place with unbelievable variety of breakfast meals. All waiters are nice and helpful. Portions are very big, but prices are very reasonable. I come at 6am, because it is packing at 6:30 and 8am it is completely packed. Highly recommended!

While on an overnight stay in Chicago, we asked several people where a good spot for breakfast was near the magnificent mile. Tempo was the unanimous decision of all three people we asked. The next morning we walked to the Cafe and noticed the great sidewalk setting!! We ate outside and enjoyed our meals! The staff was very friendly, and... More

This cafe is a short walk from the magnificent mile park hyatt hotel. We only had to wait 3 minutes for a table on the fourth of July. This place was packed elbow to elbow but the food is worth it. We had the the "scrambler" and the "scrambler skillet". Huge plate of food including home style potatoes, three eggs... More

We ate here two mornings in a row, if we lived nearby it would be hard to keep us away. Waffles, omelets, and patty melt were all excellent!

The staff was very friendly and there was plenty of choices on the menu. Both my husband and I left full and very pleased with our meals. We would come back for lunch and dinner another time.

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
