Doug Sohn has declared that he will be going on "permanent vacation" on October 4th and that has only added to the already long lines waiting outside this Chicago mecca of meat in tube form or encased meats as the case may be. We had long planned on visiting and once drove up to Chicago's Avondale neighborhood only to find... More

You decide if a hot dog is worth 2 hours in line. Saturday around 1:30 was probably the wrong time to show up...they close on time without serving everybody in line so earlier is probably better.

I had the pleasure of visiting Hot Doug's twice and I am so glad that I did. Heard the place is closing down this October which is really unfortunate. Guess I was super lucky when I went, because I did not have to experience waiting in a line out the door. Great variety of dogs and sausage that taste out... More

If you would have asked me if I would wait over an hour for a hot dog, I would have said you were nuts. However, that was before I went to Hot Doug's in Chicago. I waited over an hour recently at lunch and ended up being more than happy to do so. I had a Marguez lamb dog that... More

Being originally from Chicago, you know that you can find a good dog on virtually every corner. I heard that Doug's was closing in October and decided to give it a try this past Monday. Arrived at 10:10 (opens at 10:30) and the line was already to the alley. The line moved along and the banter of others groups in... More

I really can't believe we waited 3 hours on a Friday to get a hot dog. But we did and it was a great experience. We arrived at 10.30 and were amazed at the length of the line already. If you have time, then definitely get there early. By the time we got to the front of the line, we... More

The place to be. Go there if you want to eat the best hot dog ever. Try the ones with the foie gras, you ll be entranced. Very good but only for the braves, the chips fried in the duck fat. Tho owner, Doug, is always present with his enthusiasm and sympathy.

Yes, you will wait, so bring something to entertain yourself and sunscreen if you need it. Arrived at 11am on a weekday, and ordered just under two hours later. The whole process is remarkably streamlined...the free-form seating plan works somehow, Doug's smiling face is there to greet you as promised, and food gets to you fast and friendly. The Chicago... I had heard about Hot Doug's from people so I decided that I had to go there, but it was not worth the trouble I went through to do it. First of all, it was out in the boonies, so we had to take a $25.00 cab ride to get there. Next we waited in line for an hour and... More

Wow! Go here and try the foi gras & shrimp & grits dogs - they are sublime. Worth the 3 hour wait in line - yes, totally worth it!
