Fabulous Place (a little hidden though)

Not surprisingly for a speakeasy, I almost walked right by this place! Luckily, my savvy husband knew it was there. This place is just great. We went early on in the evening, around 6 p.m. on a Friday and waited about 10-15 minutes, I was prepared to wait longer though, so that was very nice. I... read more

This was a heavenly experience, shared with new friends from LA. The vibe is hard to explain, but you'll want to go here with a small-ish group of friends (4 seemed ideal), and the focus is entirely on the cocktail. Servers explain the menu nuances with finesse and polish, including house-made Whiskey and Rye options (and others but we stopped... More

If you're looking for cocktails in Chicago, The Violet Hour is the place to go. I greatly appreciate a good cocktail - even more than a fine bottle of wine. To blend and muddle so perfectly takes great skill and The Violet Hour does it with perfection. Our group of two couples tried a variety of house and specialty cocktails... More

A friend took me here when I was in town visiting a few years back, and then I took my husband when we were in town recently. It's such a neat little place to have a cocktail and snack, hang out with friends, relax, etc. It's a speakeasy style bar, and the presentation of the food/drinks is terrific. We tried... More

This is a super cool place to go for cocktails, you enter through a door in a wall. The doorman then checks ID (don't try and get drinks anywhere in the US without photo ID) then he takes you to the desk where they sort out a table or places at the bar. We were lucky- we went early so... More

My friend and I heard about this place from an employee at our hostel. On the last night of our trip, we decided to check it out. We got to the right block, but had to ask where the place was because it is not marked. There wasn't a line, so we actually walked right past the door where the... More

Don't get me wrong. The drinks were good. The snacks were good. The mural on the front of the building was good. But I think this place takes itself way too seriously. It was worth one visit. I wouldn't go back.

This craft cocktail bar is one of the best that I've ever been to. They use rare ingredients that I've never even heard of and combine them to make oh so tasty cocktails. This service is professional but not stuffy and the décor is amazing. Prepare for a little wait outside but you won't have to wait too long and... More

We headed over to the Violet Hour after starting at Big Star across the street two hours prior... we had to ask the guy on the gate where it was..... its just a door on a building and apparently the mural on the wall changes all the time. Walk in and greeted by a guy in a suit who asks... More

I might have had too high of hopes for this place but the drinks were really good, although I'm glad we didn't get here when there was a line since I don't think too long of wait would be worth it. It felt more like a ritzy bar than any other speakeasies I have been to on the west coast.... More
