We headed over to the Violet Hour after starting at Big Star across the street two hours prior... we had to ask the guy on the gate where it was..... its just a door on a building and apparently the mural on the wall changes all the time. Walk in and greeted by a guy in a suit who asks... More

I might have had too high of hopes for this place but the drinks were really good, although I'm glad we didn't get here when there was a line since I don't think too long of wait would be worth it. It felt more like a ritzy bar than any other speakeasies I have been to on the west coast.... More

Our guide recommended we go here for drinks. He said it's supposed to resemble a speakeasy from the 20s,so we dressed accordingly. What a cool place. Very chill atmosphere and one of the best manhattans I've ever had. Check this place out. It's in a trendy neighborhood too.

We stopped by for some drinks and were not disappointed. We did not wait in a line and, in fact, were two of only four people there when we went, but to be fair, we went on a Monday at around 6pm. We had several drinks, all very amazing, but for my money, the Ma La Colada was the best... More

Delicious drinks, thoughtfully composed-- some subtle, some strong, and all intriguing. Elegant ambiance; great for conversation. The food is excellent, too. Violet Hour is really a lovely choice if you want an intimate night out in the city.

Went to Chicago with my boyfriend to visit a college friend for the weekend. I'll admit...I was worried when I saw the line. I am usually not a "club" type of girl and I feared I was about to be sucked into douche bag madness. There was no entrance to speak of and the bouncer looked smug. Once we were... More

Everything about this experience places it outside the norm of the typical visit to a cocktail venue. Yes, it is as unassuming as you might expect a former warehouse to look on the outside. Yes, you will find a line . . . usually not too long. You will be greeted and 'vetted' for ID prior to entering. It's fair... More

Excellent cocktails and ambiance. Just do it. And don't choose a drink, let the bartender (pardon me, the mixologist) do it for you.

Yes, you'll stand in line, even though you may not be sure you're even in the right place, being as how there's no signage whatsoever, it's worth it. Once inside you'll mingle with hipsters of all ages and enjoy great and innovative cocktails. We had the fried pickle appetizer and it was delicious. Can't wait to go back.

it is worth it. Our group loved the diverse drink choices, we had a great people watching table and kind of enjoyed the music which was interesting.
