Authentic, quick and inexpensive

We love little Asian places such a Tamarind that serve Vietnamese and Thai food in unassuming atmospheres. In this case they add sushi, which was in the category of "good enough". The pha was among the best we have experienced outside of Asia. Prices were great and the service was snappy and... read more

Takeout sushi was cooked when I received it. The rest of the food was overpriced and un-interesting. I called to complain and they did nothing to fix it.

The soup was served in a large bowl, filled with chicken, string beans, zucchini, and other fresh veggies and well worth the $5.50. Everything else was mediocre. The Crab Rangoon was very cream cheesey. We had a mix of Chinese (sweet and sour chicken) and Thai (chicken with curry). They do have a liquor license.

Totally mediocre. the lettuce wraps w/chicken said spicy, and it was not. In fact it had the texture and taste of corn starch and some sweetener.Really weird. And the Thai Seafood soup said spicy with lemongrass. It was spicy, but I could not taste any lemongrass and the broth was non-descript. I hate writing anything bad, but, that's what it... More

The concierge at our hotel made the recommendation to try Tamarind. I found this to be a warm, inviting restaurant with tasty food, attentive service and fair prices. We shared the seaweed salad and an order of egg rolls for starters. Both were well made and flavorful. I went with their Pho and asked to substitute chicken for the beef.... More

A large group of us - perhaps 16 - dined together on a Thursday evening. We had a reservation and our long table was ready. The staff was cheerful, the house sake was decent, the room was pleasantly decorated and the location was convenient. On the other hand, the food was a step down in flavor from what you'd encounter... More

They have the best stir-fry ever. Its a custom, make your own with choice of protein (I passed on this one), choice of noodles (pad thai, udon, glass, and a couple more) or rice (white or brown), choice of sauce (sesame ginger, sweet and sour, and two others) and then they whisk you away to a salad bar stocked with... I was not sure what to expect based upon recent reviews. Decided to try it out as the wife wanted sushi and I wanted Thai. The restaurant decor was not fancy but great for lunch or a casual dinner. The service was great. The tuna tataki was very good. The rolls my wife ordered were quite good. My pad see... More

I was there with the friends. I found this place cosy and with warm atmosphere for a friendly lunch. Of course, I'm not Chicago specialist, but I visited places like Subway, Panda Express, some panini place and Royal India (mid-high end restaurant). This place is definitely better then fast food restaurants, but maybe too low level for a dinner. Well,... More

I wanted fried rice after a few days of rich food and the Hilton Chicago concierge recommended Tamarind which is just around the corner. What we found was a typical Asian cafe offering an eclectic mix of Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. Rather split personality but we decided we were game for it. We were a party of three... More
