Went to this place within walking distance of Chicago Hilton - handy! Service was excellent - however, whoever made the Tom Kar Ghai soup used gigantic vegetable pieces that did not belong in it, although the coconut milk-infused broth was perfect. Also, the Pad Thai (my Litmus test for any Thai food restaurants) was awful - no peanuts, nothing green... More

Recommended by the concierge for asian cuisine within walking distance from our hotel. The menu is pan-Asian, but substitutes like fried rice instead of steamed were not allowed. Also a request was made for tempura coated sushi, which was unable to be accomodated. The food was not very tasty and none of us finished our meals. I actually left still... More

We wanted something close to our hotel so we tried Tamarind. Although the restaurant wasn't crowded, the food was very good. The service was great and we felt the prices were reasonable. I'd definitely come back again.

Every year when we come downtown for the Blues Fest we have one of our meals here at Tamarind. We enjoy the food & service & even though we saw a number of not very good reviews, we found the food was plentiful & up to par as in the previous years. We had 8 people and various dishes. No... More

Loved the food here! It is a smaller restaurant with a cozy, local feel. The food came fast and hot, and was wonderful. Got sesame chicken and fried rice, and it was the best fried rice I have had in a long time. Would definitely go again.

Tamarind is 1 1/2 blocks south of Congress Pkwy - the main east/west artery into the Loop - and just 1 block west of Michigan Avenue. It's an unpresuming but quiet place - one of the best places I've been to actually be able to talk to and hear a conversation! On this particular visit I had a WONDERFUL hot... More

We were staying at the congress hotel a block back to find some dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by tamarind restaurant which offered affordable delicious cocktails ($8-$12) this is my first time in Chicago and that seemed pretty good value to me but I'm not sure how that compares with the rest of the country. Anyway apart from drinks the... More

Went here while traveling to Chicago. Seating was immediately available and everything was very good. Waiting staff were extremely efficient on filling water and clearing the table. The tea was very good and the food was hot and well prepared. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.

The food was ok. Nothing to really brag about. Sake was indeed good, but who can mess this one up. The fried rice was ok and the chicken just ok. I would for sure pick a different place as there are so many restaurants to pick from
