My Favorite Bar

Hopleaf is one of my favorite bars in the city. I love the Andersonville neighborhood, and Hopleaf is a great treat whenever I'm in the area. The food is quite good, but it's really all about the beer - one of the best beer lists in the city with quite a few brews that are off the beaten path... read more

I had the duck rueben with a plate full of fries. The beer selection was great. We were there while they had the fire place going putting off great heat on a cool Chicago night. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but once you get in it really opens up. Great atmosphere and great food.

Hopleaf was recently on Diner's, Drive Ins and Dives and we were attracted by the brisket sandwich, so chose to try them out while in Chicago. While the flavor was good, it was a little disappointing with no crunch to it. I had the Reuben which likewise was very good, but also fell short of memorable. The selection of beer... More

Great selection of microbrews and unusual food. Unusual in a good way, most things are familiar yet prepared and served in a way you may not have had. The frites (French fries) are served with mayo just like I have them in Europe. Great selection and service on top of the excellent food!

Place is cozy and nice. They have a great selection of beers and the food is really good too. Nice place to visit with friends or as a couple.

I live a block from here and spend plenty of time exploring other restaurants in the city, but I'm very lucky that this is my standby. The atmosphere is pleasant and low key. The smell is wonderfully delicious. It's large enough that you can almost always snag a seat in the open bar area despite it's popularity. The beer menu... More

With the temperature down in the teens, the entry ambience and warmth of Hopleaf was very welcome on a cold, dark Monday night. I was immediately impressed with the number of people in Hopleaf given the weather and knew this had to be a special place. We were seated promptly and had fantastic service throughout our meal. Great suggestions of... More

Had a beer here last summer and new I wanted to come back for more. Visiting family in the Andersonville area gave us the perfect opportunity for lunch. Starting with an amazing beer selection, with a heavy Belgian focus, we sampled a few before making our final selections. I had the celery and squash soup with a beet relish garnish... More

With so many options for craft brews + good food in this area of Chicago, Hopleaf is a consistent favorite. So many interesting draft beers to choose from, it's hard to decide. Each beer is described by style, ABV and general taste points. The knowledgable bar staff will provide further guidance, if needed. It's not just about the beer, creative... More
