A great experience

Monastero's is a long-time family neighborhood restaurant which serves REAL Italian food. The menu is creative, the service attentive and the food always satisfying.

I am a bit confused about this restaurant. We started out having great bread and great service. We then ate some very tasteless and rubbery calamari. I then received a great dinner of sausage and chicken, while my daughter ate very disappointing pizza. My wife's pumpkin ravioli wasn't very good either. We ended the night listening to an angelic operatic... More

The Monastero Family has been serving the Chicago area since 1962. The menu features traditional Sicilian and Italian American favorites, including risotto, pasta, Vesuvios, Parmigiana, and Marsala dishes. Not to be missed, is the house made breads, arancine, stuffed bell peppers, or steak and seafoods. The family friendly atmosphere is surrounded with rich Sicilian history, including the arts and the... More

Like classic Italian food? Monastero's provides consistently good Italian comfort food at reasonable prices. Stick with pastas and Italian dishes for best food experience. Bread basket came with addicting thin Italian breadsticks, and really good Italian bread. Appetizers are plentiful. Our party had fish entrees tonight -- not the best choice. My whitefish smelled and tasted fishy, one other person's... More

We ate the filet -- perfectly cooked, veal scallopine ala Marsala - wow!!! I had the pasta rustica with salmon. Amazing. We ordered a side order of sausage and bruschetta which for both I've never had better. We also ate chocolate cake that was to die for. A diamond in the rough. Way way beyond our expectations. Oh yeah there... More

Eight couples celebrating 27 years in a housing co-op in nearby North Mayfair neighborhood, so Monastero's is a neighborhood special nearby "neighbor place". . with once again a terrific Sicilian repast and a "happy anniversary song" from one of the owners. We could talk and toast and listen to the piano player. . very comfortable place. .which still rocks in... More

We live in the neighborhood and go to Monastero's often for dinner. A family-owned place that has been around for over 50 years - the food is always very good, service is attentive and friendly, and often there is music on the weekends. It is worth a drive even if you don't live in the neighborhood - free parking.

We spent a lovely evening at Monastero's at a private dinner for 125. The service and food were excellent. Appetizers and wine were passed as the guests socialized. Dinner was served from an adjacent kitchen so that everything arrived promptly and at the perfect temperature. We had salad with a choice of two dressings; a Tuscan tomato basil corn soup;... More

Being new to the area, I was invited to a function at Monastero's. The only thing that I knew about was that it was close to where I live. From the minute that I walked inside you can tell you could tell you were in good surroundings. To my surprised, the waiter was singing opera as we made our way... More

Our favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. Food and atmosphere are always top notch. We have never had a bad meal there in over 15 years.
