Great food, friendly staff, Great prices

The food was amazing!! I ordered the fried shrimp for app. Lightly fried with amazing sauces, King crab app was also awesome. Be prepared to take plenty left on your plate. Portions are shareable. Fantastic oysters and calamari. Cheap drinks and CASH only. Second time here and nothing has changed and hope nothing does. Snow crab and filet is great as well.

First off, this is CASH ONLY. It is a bar with some tables. Located under the steps of an apartment building. See the bartender when you walk in if you want a table. This is a VERY informal place, It is more of a local landmark. The King Crab Legs are huge. it was $37.00 for the legs and worh... More

This is a gem of a Chicago secret. If you don't know what you are looking for you would walk right past it. The Half Shell has been around since 1968 and it's the perfect little dive with amazing seafood. The Half Shell located on a corner in the Lincoln Park neighborhood is nestled below street level. You enter downstairs... More

I ducked in for a quick dinner at Half Shell on a week night, and was pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately and served quickly. The dining room looks like it was imported from Boston in the 1960's. Shabby sheek with lots of memorabilia contributing to a seafood vibe. I ordered calimari, and a large portion came out hot with... More

If you want really sweet crab legs at a great price in a funky relaxed very small atmosphere this is the place. Service isn't 5 star but fun place. Cash only. You won't regret it.

I know I've reviewed this restaurant before, but I feel compelled to sing its praises every time we go there. We live 35 miles away in the suburbs, and today, my wife and I drove in just to have lunch there with her sister and brother-in-law. We are longtime repeat customers and look forward to continue going back. We arrived... More

If you are looking for a place that has amazing crab legs you have to go here. It's in Lincoln Park. It looks like a complete dive but is a great place to eat, drink and enjoy! Great atmosphere just to hang out with friends, not fancy at all. I am a "local" and would highly recommend! Prices are typical... More

If there is one place that has great king crab legs and doesn't steal your wallet during the process, its Half Shell. I love this place when its warm out and you can score a table outdoors on the patio. The inside of the place looks like a dive, but it's well known locally to have some great food. I... More

Every time we are in Chicago, it has become a tradition to have lunch at the Half Shell. Our favorites are the salads, shrimp, frog legs, crab cakes as well as a good offering of beers. The menu features many other fish and seafood offerings. We always go for lunch as the place gets very busy in the evenings...........not a... More
