I visit Chicago a lot and stay in Lincoln Park-Lakeview area. I always see Penny's Noodle Shop from Diversey train station. I decided to give it a try. They have friendly service but sorry to say that food is not great. It's not terrible but at best, it is very ordinary. I ordered gyoza and satay for my 3-year old... More

Think you can’t eat cheaply in Chicago? Think again. Head to Penny’s Noodle Shop and score dinner for around $8. When I asked my server about her favorite dish, I was offered an off menu item called Dry Wonton Noodles, a combination of two menu items, Egg Noodles with Barbequed Pork and Thai Ravioli, which are miniature shrimp and pork... I frequented Penny's during my graduate school years in Chicago in the mid to late 1990s. I developed a love for pad see ew there. Penny's used to be BYOB and the prices were always good (and still are). Last week I visted Chicago and had Penny's pad see ew for the first time in 15 years. It's still wonderful!... More

Penny's Noodle Shop never disappoints. It was one of my favorites, if not my favorite restaurant, when I lived in Chicago. Now that I live out of the area, its one of two must eats when I am in town. The service is always great and you can not beat the prices. The crab Rangoon is the best of anywhere... More

My husband and I were looking for a place to have dinner while we were in Chicago for a couple of nights. Given that we were part of a convention, it was our only night free where we could choose our restaurant. We wanted something delicious, but simple and not expensive. I spent almost an hour online, looking at groupon... More

This is a great place to grab a quick dinner, especially if you enjoy spicy food. There are some great noodle dishes that will make you sweat. Price was good too.

I like the pad thai and spicy noodles. The broccoli salad is just cold broccoli, so skip that. BYOB. Nice outdoor seating but we usually get take out.

The place is very tiny, but you can bring your own drinks if you wish. It's nice to sit out during the warmer months. I wouldn't call this authentic Thai, but the food is always fresh, clean (meaning not a lot of ingredients or additives), tasty and pretty cheap, too. They aren't always the friendliest there, but if you give... More

I first had Penny's Noodles when i was a college student at DePaul University. It was my first introduction to Thai food. And I have to say, more than 10 years later, Penny's Noodles is still my favorite Thai place. I've lived within 2 blocks of Penny's for years, and pass by every time I get on/off the Diversey "L"....
