Pilipino heaven

We met at Uncle Mikes for brunch on a Sunday morning last week. I've never been to a Pilipino breakfast place before but my fiance loves Pilipino food and his Pilipino friend we met there promised this place would be amazing. We were not disappointed. Both my fiance and his friend ordered off the... read more

Reviews are so great but I guess it all depends on ones palate. The food is decent, it's okay but not something that I will crave for. It was not actually worth the drive from the burbs. The sweet pork or longanisa is okay, the daing or fried fish is okay. The steak is cooked good. The lugaw or commonly... More

During a recent Chicago visit I had a craving for Filipino breakfast good and I got my fix at Uncle Mike's Place. I had the combination daing na bangus and tocino special with rice and 2 eggs over easy. It was a generous authentic meal that really hit the spot. The staff was friendly and service was fast. Unpretentious good... More

I had Filipino breakfast here for the first time a few years ago and haven't stopped talking about it since. It's all I have had here. I get the longaniza and tocino combo breakfast, which comes with eggs, rice, pico de gallo (or something comparable), sausage, and pork shoulder. Oh and some gingery, garlicky chicken soup called lugao as well.... More

Great breakfast place! So many choices... try the fish breakfast, it was very-very good. So much food for a great price: soup, 3 eggs, garlic rice, veggies & rice pudding for 9 bucks! Super friendly service, it feels like we were at a friend's home :-) I want to be back here now!

My colleague, who also happens to be a Chicagophile, kept telling me about Uncle Mike's Place. He is not Filipino but he had a good experience there. So my wife and I finally went. It was easy to find on Grand just a block west of Ashland. The place truly had no frills so don't look for interior decorations or... More

You will truly appreciate this place if you have ever had a Filipino parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle make breakfast for you? You get huge portions for the price paid, humble service with a smile, and a warm comfortable atmosphere. I recommend trying one of the traditional Filipino combos but don't worry if you're feeling a little shy. The menu... More

My girlfriend is from Taiwan and was longing for congee in the morning. The Filipino congee here is excellent and the milkfish and sausage are on point. This is the closest thing in Chicago to an authentic Asian breakfast experience. The portions are HUMONGOUS and worth the somewhat pricey cost....you will definitely be taking leftovers home ( I did and... More

The "Lugaw" (Filipino Congee) makes Uncle Mike a unique breakfast place in Chicago. They serve breakfast all day. We arrived at 1:30PM, NO MORE LUGAW, we went for the Lugaw, otherwise we would have gone somewhere else. There was no substitute. The Longaniza was not well cooked, hurriedly cooked, the garlic rice did not taste garlicky or no garlic at... More
