It's a bit out of the way, but worth every step. The italian beef is amazing - I got mine hot and wet - and I would go back tomorrow. It's a small clean restaurant and the staff are great. They'll walk you through the menu and your options and are super helpful. We definitely will return!

Need a filling lunch that epitomizes Chicago? Go for none other than Al's Italian Beef. Ordered a beef sandwich w/ peppers. "Wet" version. So the bun was dipped. You have to get the fries. Amazing meal!

For years I thought Portillo's was the word on Italian beef in Chicago but wandering around the river north area a stumbled upon this little gem....not glitzy at all and very plain as far as atmosphere goes but the food is super. I've had the beef, the sausage, and their Chicago dog as well as excellent chili fries. Counter service... More

Great Italian beef sandwich and fries. Service was good and fast. The atmosphere is just ok. But I will be back for sure!

We had to try it since it is something of a Chicago item, if you will. I wouldn't go out of my way to have another one.

We popped in here on a recommendation from a friend. It did not disappoint. Quick service and really good food.

This place ain't classy. It pretty fast-food-like but the dipped italian beef sandwich with peppers was an absolute treat. I really enjoyed it. The fries were delicious too, skin on, crispy and salty. I enjoyed my sandwich sat inside while the heavens opens outside. I would definitely make it a priority to stop by for another Italian beef if I... More

Got it lightly dipped, and it was delicious. The only disappointment was the peppers, which weren't seasoned. The fries are the best though, so it's a tough call when picking a favorite.

This location wasn't listed because I think it is newer but it is the same old GOOD Italian Beef sandwich. I always get it "dipped w/ hot and sweet peppers!" This location is ice w/ seats that face the street if you want a view while you eat. This is a mandatory stop when I am in Chi-town!

This is hands down one of the best Italian beef sandwiches I've ever had. I'm not big on cold sandwiches a la Jimmy John's, so the warm beef and au jus were a huge plus. There's no easy way to eat this sandwich. You just have to pick it up and expect juice to drip everywhere. That being said, this... More
