We were in town for several days, staying at a hotel nearby. After indulging in hotel breakfast the first morning, we wanted to find something much more reasonably priced. I happened upon this little spot in the sunken plaza area near Cheesecake Factory in Chicago. It's also near the Hancock building and Rafaelo Hotel. It has international gift food items that are unique, as well as fresh coffee drinks, teas, hot chocolate, bakery items that look delicious. There is also a hot food counter where they serve breakfast at... More

Great place to grab a sandwich, soup, or afternoon treat. Cold sandwiches are HUGE - easy to share. Paninis are just the right size (and price!)

Sandwiches and sups are VERY GOOD! Good service, better prices! If you're in the area, this is an excellent choice for a quick lunch and a late night snack.

As an Italophile, I was immediately smitten with this establishment because it reminded me of an authentic Italian bar. I had a wonderful panini with grilled eggplant, mozzarella, and pesto. I believe the price was around $6 which was reasonable. I also purchased several Italian food products that I haven't been able to find outside of Italy. I can't wait... More

This place is quite small, BUT they have so much to offer, and the atmosphere and decor is really detailed and trendy, pretty, authentic. They have packaged Italian foods like a little grocery, they have a huge bakery, they have gelato, they have wine that you can get by the glass or bottle, they have a deli with meats and... More

We stumbled upon this place and went in for some breakfast; their toasted ham & cheese croissants are delicious. The place was clean, the staff were pleasant (if a little curt, but i assumed that was just being a local; no conversation, just service). They had an excellent range of sandwiches, pastries, cakes etc to choose from and everything looked... More

I was staying round the corner so this was a quick and easy place to grab brunch before heading out for the day, I visited two or three times while staying in Chicago. Each time I got a freshly made Italian sandwich from the counter at the back of the store. The Italian guys serving may lack a certain amount... More

I was staying at the Drake and wanted to try something different (and more reasonable) for breakfast so we tried L’Appetito. I assumed it must be good because it was a bit crowded when we got there. We did have to double back twice because the place does not open until 7:30 which did not make sense to me. That... More

Staying in Magnificent Mile

Neighborhood Profile
Magnificent Mile
Over 400 stores pack the concrete along Michigan Avenue, the eight-block stretch known as Magnificent Mile. This area between Oak Avenue and the Chicago River is more a shopping paradise than a full-out neighborhood. For prime upscale shopping, this is the place to go. It’s busy, energetic, and packed with shoppers. You'll also find hundreds of restaurants and dozens of hotels, all on the mid- to high-end scale. Some of the city’s most iconic buildings like the Wrigley Building, John Hancock Center and other architectural marvels define the magnificence of this neighborhood.
