Good Indian food...not so good service

We were a group of four visiting Chicago for a couple of days. We had buffet for lunch once and a la' carte for dinner. Food was good, not authentic, but Indian. Much better than lot of places we have been in US. The service needs to be improved. There was only one gentleman taking order and... read more

After a long day at the Navy Pier and the fun around,we decided to settle for an authentic Indian food in the near vicinity. Its there bang on the Walton street so you cant miss it. It has a nice ambience enhanced by the paintings of Indian Maharajas and dancing queens. The restaurant serves North Indian,Punjabi and South Indian cuisines.... More

If you are around in the neighbourhood then Gaylord is a good place to visit. The restaurant sign can be seen from the street . The restaurant itself is in a lower level from street level, with a big bar in front. So if you are passing by you might not notice the restaurant and think its a bar. The... More

While the overall food is good, it lacks that traditional Indian taste. There is not a lot of variety and the service needs to improve a bit. Considering the price they charge, I'd expect slightly more across all areas!

The food was poor quality in huge quantities. The starter lacked flavour and so I didn't eat most of it. The restaurant staff didn't query that I hadn't extent much. No sooner had the starter plates been cleared than the main course arrived. We had ordered a special rice to go with ours. 5 mins in the waiter brought ordinary... More

The food is plentiful, and service was good. However, it felt that the flavors were lacking. We had the vindaloo (spicy), chicken tikka, gosht biryani, sheekh kababs (very good). 3 stars for food and service. However, I will give a 4 star as one of our members was celebrating a birthday and they served a very tasty Orange ice cream... More

In spite of the mixed reviews, we decided to try this restaurant once and we were not disappointed. Since we are vegetarians, the staff recommended Baingan Bhartha and Paneer Bhurj. Both of these were really good and would definitely recommend these to anyone.

Great variety of food. Most Indian restaurants in US have North Indian / Punjabi food. Gaylord has this too, but also has south indian options like dosas. Food was great and service was excellent. Most people eating were non Indians.

I was with friends at Chicago for a conference. We were staying at the Millenium Knickerboeker hotel off the Millenium avenue. Some of our Indian friends wanted to have Indian food during our stay ,thus we visited 3 of them that serve Indian cuisine. The first day dinner was at the Gaylord as it was within walking distance from our... More

Staying in Magnificent Mile

Neighborhood Profile
Magnificent Mile
Over 400 stores pack the concrete along Michigan Avenue, the eight-block stretch known as Magnificent Mile. This area between Oak Avenue and the Chicago River is more a shopping paradise than a full-out neighborhood. For prime upscale shopping, this is the place to go. It’s busy, energetic, and packed with shoppers. You'll also find hundreds of restaurants and dozens of hotels, all on the mid- to high-end scale. Some of the city’s most iconic buildings like the Wrigley Building, John Hancock Center and other architectural marvels define the magnificence of this neighborhood.
