I have been to Phoenix many times and used to be the only place i visited. When CAI and Ming Hin opened, I switched to check them out. When Phoenix remodeled, I went on a Sunday, which is the busiest day in Chinatown for all restaurants. The DIM SUM did not seem to be much different than the others, just... More

Phoenix is perhaps one of the most well-known and popular dim sum restaurants in Chicago's Chinatown. It is almost always crowded with many non-Chinese diners. Dim sum on the weekends is served on roaming carts where diners pick the dishes they want to eat. Dim Sum, which literally means "little hearts" or "precious" are the Chinese equivalent of tapas (actually,... More

Tough to find parking but worth the effort. A friend's pick for "great Chinese" did not disappoint. We had the owner looking after us (she still has her T'ronna accent) so perhaps not a surprise that both the service and food were above par... certainly wonderfully prepared and presented. Duck and chicken were absolutely delicious. Our sea bass was the... More

We drove to Chicago for Dim Sum, but got a late start. When we got to the Phoenix there was a 45 minute wait....which was more like 1+ hour. The service was immediate and the selection was great. The seaweed rolls were outstanding and just about everything else, too. It's not a cheap Dim Sum, but it is a pretty... More

I have an advantage when ordering dim sum because I speak Chinese. They really orchestrate this place for dim sum. One of the managers teased a cart driver that she'd be back on day shift if she didn't improve her act. I have a book on dim sum which I lent to one of my co-diners and together we ordered... More

Numerous choices of good dim sum. Carts during the day, more limited menu selection in the evening, but still a lot to choose from. Other dishes ordinary, but some of the better dim sum we have had outside of Hong Kong.

Every year we grab the kids and take a water taxi to Chinatown to wander around and ultimately check out a Chinese restaurant. When we left The Phoenix my wife turned to me and said, I don't think I need to come to Chinatown again. The Phoenix was terribly disappointing, worse so because of all the recommendations. It was equivalent... More

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch with a steamed large mouth bass (kept live in restaurant) and Crab sauteed with Ginger and Onion. Both were authentic and reminded me of Hong Kong. Well worth the trip down to China Town if you are in Chicago.

I've eaten here for both dim sum and for dinner, and both are excellent. I've also eaten here with people raised on meat & potatoes in the Midwest, as well as Chinese-born & bred guests -- and they've all been impressed. During dim sum, the staff walk around with dim sum carts so that guests can see the food and... More

We went to Phoenix because Shui Wah, a popular dim sum restaurant that had been recommended to us had shut down. Phoenix is a little pricier than Shui Wah at $3.50-$5.00 per plate but is quite good for Chicago's standards (I've had better dim sum in San Francisco and Hong Kong though but hey, Chicago isn't exactly known for its...
