This is probably the last time I eat here. I haven't been to Phoenix in over 5 years and to come back for dim sum and find the majority of the dishes we ordered was poor in quality was disappointing. Let's start with the positives: their taro fried dumplings and the rice wrapped in the lotus leaf were ok. Also... More

just finish dining at the Phoenix for Dinner three times in the last two week with family and friends. I can only say that the three meals that I had there, where some of the most satisfying and enjoyable Classical Cantonese Food that I have eaten. The one classical home style dish of steamed and hand chopped berkshire pork with... More

Way beyond expecations - Personally never been a huge fan of Chinese cuisine however, this is a place I would return to another time. We had steamed veggie dumplings, steamed yum choy...it I was brilliant green and perfectly cooked with crunch and tasty sauce. We also had a beef noodle dish, a shrimp curry noodle and a shrimp stuffed bean... More

After 12 years of enjoying Phoenix, they blew it big time. So big I have to say, this would be our last visit after 12 years. Had a reservation for lunch, for 2 adults and one patient 8 year old. It took two waiters and the manager to get food ordered. Repeated pleas for tea were ignore, till the manager... More

Sunday Dim Sum for a group of 7. We arrived early to avoid the usual 30 minute wait. Since we had no reservation, they seated in the smaller room. It seemed like we were offered a lot less variety than on previous visits. And though we specifically requested a couple of items several times, they took almost an hour to... More

The food at the Phoenix was delicious. We came hete with a large group of friends. We had an 8 course meal with two appetizers and 6 entrees. The lettuce wraps were amazing!! The noodles, eggplant and tofu dishes were also very tasty. Each with its own sauce and unique flavors. We will be back soon.

This is probably one of the best cart-style dim sum places in Chinatown for the price. Some people have complained that they get no service because they are white - that's not true, I've seen other Chinese get ignored just as hard as any group of tourists, so stop with that already. The thing is about this place and other... More

We were in Chicago for several days on a business trip and were looking for some authentic Chinese food. Our guide on the Wendell actually recommended the Phoenix and it did not disappoint. The Dim Sum was amazing. Be sure and ask if they have any specials. There were off menu dim sum items that everyone enjoyed. We also ordered... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown may be one of Chicago’s smallest neighborhoods geographically, but it's big on character, colors, sights, sounds, and flavors. In this South Side neighborhood, you’ll find authentic Chinese restaurants dotting the length of Wentworth Avenue. After a meal of dim sum, noodles, duck or other tantalizing food specialties, satiate your visual appetite with dozens of public art sculptures sprinkled throughout the neighborhood ranging from animal structures to pagodas, a tile mosaic, Chinatown Gate, and a Buddhist Temple.
