Very good Dim Sum, but get there early or make a reservation

Sunday Dim Sum for a group of 7. We arrived early to avoid the usual 30 minute wait. Since we had no reservation, they seated in the smaller room. It seemed like we were offered a lot less variety than on previous visits. And though we specifically requested a couple of items several times, they... read more

The food at the Phoenix was delicious. We came hete with a large group of friends. We had an 8 course meal with two appetizers and 6 entrees. The lettuce wraps were amazing!! The noodles, eggplant and tofu dishes were also very tasty. Each with its own sauce and unique flavors. We will be back soon.

This is probably one of the best cart-style dim sum places in Chinatown for the price. Some people have complained that they get no service because they are white - that's not true, I've seen other Chinese get ignored just as hard as any group of tourists, so stop with that already. The thing is about this place and other... More

We were in Chicago for several days on a business trip and were looking for some authentic Chinese food. Our guide on the Wendell actually recommended the Phoenix and it did not disappoint. The Dim Sum was amazing. Be sure and ask if they have any specials. There were off menu dim sum items that everyone enjoyed. We also ordered... More

wait time for this restaurant during lunch was 45 minutes. upon being seated, we never saw a waiter. tiny dishes of dim sum at this place are carted around the restaurant for customers choose from. the ladies with the food carts came to our table pretty quick upon seating. we starting ordering our dishes, when again never a wait staff... We went with friends who have a young daughter. It was a bit late for dim sum but there were quite a few trolleys moving around. The ladies serving them were hardly articulate, even after realizing that my wife could speak to them in Cantonese. They gave you a second or two to make your decision and moved on quickly... More

The Dim Sum at the Phoenix restaurant is simply excellent - even by Hong Kong standards, e.g. the Luk Yu Tea House. While weekends are, as to be expected, rather... crunched {but still well worth it}, weekdays allows you to order your Dim Sum ala carte and the delivery was still expedient. Service was attentive and thorough - it's nice... More

I love Chinese food and this place just made my Top 5 list for the country. The food was delicious, the venue was very scenic and the experience was pretty cool! I would highly recommend this place to others. I dined here with my wife and a relative who lives in the area. My wife and I ordered off the... More

We were really hoping for dim sum, but it was late Sunday evening, and they do not serve it then. However, we ordered potstickers, crispy duck, egg drop soup, sweet and sour chicken, and Szechuan fish. All were excellent. Far superior to typical Chinese fare in the Midwest. Service was good to excellent. Prices were very fair considering the quality.... More

This is my favorite dim sum in Chicago. This is as good as it gets for dim sum. The variety is excellent. All the usual dim sum items are there plus many more. The authenticity is A1. Service is super attentive. All attend to all the tables. We have only had dim sum here. It starts getting busy by 10:30am... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown may be one of Chicago’s smallest neighborhoods geographically, but it's big on character, colors, sights, sounds, and flavors. In this South Side neighborhood, you’ll find authentic Chinese restaurants dotting the length of Wentworth Avenue. After a meal of dim sum, noodles, duck or other tantalizing food specialties, satiate your visual appetite with dozens of public art sculptures sprinkled throughout the neighborhood ranging from animal structures to pagodas, a tile mosaic, Chinatown Gate, and a Buddhist Temple.
