Not your parents' vegetarian.

I'm not vegetarian and I admit I made jokes beforehand about planning for fried chicken a couple hours after dinner here, but I shouldn't have worried. I couldn't finish all my food, even though I wanted to. The food was flavorful and creative without falling into the "health food" stereotype or the use of shady fake meat products. We probably... I have vegetarian and vegan friends that visit Chicago - and every time, I recommend this restaurant. Not once have I been disappointed: the experience has always been outstanding. The place is relatively small (reservations recommended), and it carries the feel of an intimate setting, so you will see a number of dates; service is flawless and the food is... More

My husband and I are from Mississippi. We are both vegetarian and travel frequently. On our travels we have eaten at many fine dining vegetarian restaurants...Boston, San Francisco, Vancouver B.C., Denver, Helsinki, and others. We both agreed that Green Zebra tops this list so far! Nicely decorated, friendly service, many menu choices, and most important - it was DELICIOUS!

I cannot disagree with many of the previous reviewers that the dishes and dining experience here are interesting and well-presented. My lower rating reflects the value: The portion sizes are too small for what they charge (our meal for 2 was $100 with tip, without alcohol), and they're not all that filling. I went there hungry, and felt fine after... More

We were celebrating a family birthday and this place was perfect - we knew it would be expensive so we're not shocked when the bill arrived! Tast food and the wine pairings on the tastings menu was perfect

This restaurant was commended to us by our daughter, and we were not disappointed! We were greeted warmly and shown to our table in this fairly small restaurant. Our waitress was very helpful in recommending how many small plates to order and which ones were specialties. The mushroom pâté is incredible. The chick pea chili was delicious. Ditto the black... Green Zebra is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. It is all vegetarian (but we aren't!). But the food is incredibly inventive and sophisticated, not at all the bland fare one often finds at vegetarian spots. They often have set menus which change from week to week, featuring a particular ingredient: mushrooms, pumpkin, or last week chocolate. That menu... More

In addition to the regular menu each week there is a featured, four course dinner highlighting a specific ingredient. We've been here quite a few times and are always amazed at what Chef DuBois comes up with. It's vegetarian but even a dedicated meat eater will find more than enough to be completely satisfied. It is a quiet storefront in... More

Green Zebra was the restaurant "find" of our recent trip to Chicago. Who knew that a city known for its robust dining options could harbor such an exquisite vegetarian restaurant? The chef treats vegetables as the star of the show, not a side act. The dishes are imaginative, beautifully prepared, and artfully presented by a knowledgeable staff. The space is... More

After 20 minutes, the line, "your drinks are almost ready" doesn't hold much weight when you've ordered wine by the glass. Also, having to beg for serving utensils when you're served a communal bowl of soup seems outright lame. Thinking this place has outlived its welcome and the hype. The actual food, when it eventually arrived, was not bad. But... More
