Green Zebra is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. It is all vegetarian (but we aren't!). But the food is incredibly inventive and sophisticated, not at all the bland fare one often finds at vegetarian spots. They often have set menus which change from week to week, featuring a particular ingredient: mushrooms, pumpkin, or last week chocolate. That menu... More

In addition to the regular menu each week there is a featured, four course dinner highlighting a specific ingredient. We've been here quite a few times and are always amazed at what Chef DuBois comes up with. It's vegetarian but even a dedicated meat eater will find more than enough to be completely satisfied. It is a quiet storefront in... More

Green Zebra was the restaurant "find" of our recent trip to Chicago. Who knew that a city known for its robust dining options could harbor such an exquisite vegetarian restaurant? The chef treats vegetables as the star of the show, not a side act. The dishes are imaginative, beautifully prepared, and artfully presented by a knowledgeable staff. The space is... More

After 20 minutes, the line, "your drinks are almost ready" doesn't hold much weight when you've ordered wine by the glass. Also, having to beg for serving utensils when you're served a communal bowl of soup seems outright lame. Thinking this place has outlived its welcome and the hype. The actual food, when it eventually arrived, was not bad. But... More

Small plates. All vegetarian with half of the selection being vegan. The mushroom pate was amazing and the cheese plate really good (obviously I am not vegan...). We got a smalll cup of spicy hot tea when we sat down and I can't wait to try and make it at home but where will I find fermented limes I wonder... More

GZ was recommended as the best vegan food in the city, for high-end dining. I had Shitake mushroom roulades, and a delicious pasta with pesto. My only complaint was that everything had a touch too much oil. Very nice room for a romantic dinner. Service was attentive. I'll go back next time I'm in Chicago. Public transportation isn't close by,... More

This is out of the way but worth the trip. A varied small plate menu with fresh local ingredients. The menu is varied and provides a tour de force of "interesting" vegetarian dishes.

We ordered the prix fixe Truffle menu with the wine pairings. Though we did add the Hens of the Woods mushroom pate, which began our meal with a dazzling start. Funny thing is, there was no drop off with any of the courses that followed. The mini-puff with creme fraiche and truffles was light yet richly flavored. The truffle salad... More

Went on Friday with 2 friends - was impressed with the food and cocktails. It's a small restaurant and it was packed - even people eating at the tiny bar. It's mostly small plates. My friends and I shared a few to start and then each had one plate to ourselves - worked out well. The mushroom pate is unreal.... More
