My husband is Hispanic so I have become very picky over years about Mexican restaurants and this is by far the best please I have ever ate! The food is fresh, large portions, and I don’t leave feeling sick when I am full. The veggies, rice, and beans are all fresh. I love it. It looks like it used to... More

Great authentic Mexican restaurant. Not overly large as we had about a 20 minute wait. Very close seating but think in the summer it would be nice to be out on the patio. 1st..the Mango Margaritas were wonderful! I could sit and drink them with chips and guacamole alone. We had wonderful meals and very large portions! The fajitas were... More

I stopped in at El Barco for a quick dinner on a week night, and was seated promptly. The dining room is large with multiple rooms. It looks like restaurants on the Pacific coast of Mexico . Fairly typical Mexican decor with lots of artifacts contributing to a seaside vibe. I ordered fish tacos. It took a bit of time... More

This was the best meal that I had while in Chicago. I was with a group of four and we ordered the seafood combo for three - it was more than enough food. The seafood was very fresh and I liked the traditional cooking styles. It was very similar to meals that I have had in Mexico! Great Cantina atmosphere... More

Stopped in for lunch last week after a couple people recommended the place. I've driven past it for years, completely unknown to me. This place is awesome! As a purveyor of spicy mexican food, this place is perfect. Plus, the unique twist on this place is their specialty is the seafood/fish side of the menu. I recommend the Diablo Mahi... More

I have not been back to Chicago in a few years but El Barco is as delicious as ever. Get the seafood. Our lunch favorite is the fish tacos. Mahi mahi lunch of any kind is also excellent. Good service and nice interior. Retro. Potato soup was good but too spicy for weenies. Great sauces and real tortias for the... More

If you crave authentic Mexican food, you must go to El Barco, but be prepared for a 1/2 hour wait. Its worth it. The service is quick once you get seated, The menu is half the size of the table, the portions are all supersized. The prices are reasonable. The beer is very cold and the food is served hot. Try... El Barco is a no-nonsense fish and seafood dining experience. The setting and environment is classic family friendly, delicious outing. The quality of the food is the top in every sense. Portions are very generous. You might not be able to finish your dish, but you will take home the leftover. Whole red snapper prepared any way you like, will... More

This is a specialty restaurant, Mexican seafood and fish. The decor is appropriately maritime with stuffed swordfish hanging from the ceiling like some 1950'es rec room come to life. There is meat on the menu and the skirt steak ordered by one of our guests was excellent - but what really shines is the fish which is fresh and never... More
