This was the 2nd time of coming to this restaurant. It's near the UChicago campus so is a quick choice for good quality local breakfast choice. Valois is a cash only place so leave your plastic in the wallet. Ordering your food is fast so be prepared with what you want - the cooks appear to be prepared to make... More

Friends took me here on a recent trip to Chicago, and I got one of the Obama specials, the steak and cheese omelette. The restaurant itself is fairly unassuming, but they really have food prep down to a science, and the result was the best omelette I've ever eaten. Fluffy eggs, melted cheese, bite-sized pieces of steak. I already want... More

The Valois Cafeteria is the best reasonably priced place to eat in Hyde Park. There is a daily variety of main courses. The food is gre at. It was good enough for Obama, so what can I say? It i not fine dining but it is very good food. You could spend a lot more nearby and get a lot... More

So far in Chicago this was the best food by far. We had cheese and bacon omelets and they were perfect. The price was incredibly reasonable and the portions perfect.

Only cafeteria where we ever ordered prime rib and got the whole thing (bone and all). And it was cooked perfectly medium rare. An eclectic mix of patrons, from business people, other locals and college students. Nice selection, food was really good and prices reasonable for the area.

We are regulars at Valois-- by which I mean we eat there about twice a month-- and we don't come close to the real regulars-- the people who are there every day. We come for breakfast a lot. Our usual breakfast order is: omelet (veggie sometimes, Denver sometimes, egg white sometimes) 3 orders of pancakes 1 order of french toast... More

First trip back for a few months but regular guys still cooking and providing fresh, hot food. The omelets, as everything else, is good value. The only thing I wish they would change is the sliced processed cheese they use. Otherwise, great prices and good food. Don't let any line up scare you as they move you through very quickly

I had planned a 4th of July weekend in Chicago with a friend and her boyfriend's friends who are from the city. We had no idea where to go and finally ended up here. The cons were the service and the fact that they don't take cards. The service is not bad but it's as if they are just there... More

Valois Restaurant on 53rd in Hyde Park - whose tagline since 1921 is "See Your Food" - continues to dish out delicious, super-reasonable specials, sandwiches, salads and desserts. It's unfussy home cooking like the yummy BBQ half-chicken special, which included 2 sides. I chose mashed potatoes and gravy as well as garlicky spinach and the whole thing was $6.50. A... More
