Great Breakfast

I enjoy Valois, my daughter recommended this place to me, she would eat here before her classes at Kenwood. Love the hash browns and turkey sausage.

Was staying in Hyde Park and wanted a real breakfast, no mamby pamby frou frou stuff. Each of my kids and I ordered one of "President Obama's Favorite Specials" breakfast meals and a drink. Our bill was less than $10 each, and every meal was plentiful. Ordering is kind of like the "Cheeseburger Cheeseburger" Saturday Night Live skit, but that's... More

Valois Restaurant is President Obama's favorite Hyde Park restaurant for a very good reason. We dined here based on reviews from another site, and because of historical significance. The portions were ample and delicious. I ordered macaroni and cheese with a hamburger steak and onions. My wife ordered baked chicken and dressing. Very good food, great for the money--under $20,... No one goes to Valois for an upscale atmosphere. It's very down to earth and gritty--pun intended on one of the foods served here as well. This is an old fashion, noisy and wonderfully perfect chicago-style brunch joint. The place is constantly packed with locals, students and faculty from U Chicago. It's dirt cheap and amazingly good. You can't go... More

This is the place where future President Obama used to have his breakfast , well that does state how basic his Taste is. You could as well have a meal next to a Nobel prize. The potatoes are OK.

I first visited Valois a few years ago after hearing that it was a popular spot, mainly because President Obama frequented the place prior to becoming President. Back then the area was a bit spotty with some economic development starting up. A few years later and this area is much improved with lots of new retailers and shopping areas. The... More

There are a few unique features about Valois. First, it is Cafeteria Style, it's been year since I was a restaurant that served Cafeteria Style. Second, cash only. Third, breakfast all day. The food is good and proportions large. The menu is large, but know what you want when you come up to order. The service is fast and good.... More

Everyone in hyde park has to go to valois. Place your cooked order at the beginning of the line, it's done by the time you get to the end; generally breakfast items are not premade. Cheap, huge crowds, satisfying. I've had better omelets but I paid 2 - 3 times as much.

Staying in Hyde Park

Neighborhood Profile
Hyde Park
If you want to get a feel for quintessential South Side Chicago, you have to make a stop in Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic area is home to two of the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago. A stroll here will bring you past vintage and grand hotels converted into luxury apartment buildings; peaceful gardens, parks and green spaces; and ivy-adorned museums and other cultural institutions that speak to the city’s diversity and architectural beauty.
