Good Food, Good Service, Great Prices!

There are a few unique features about Valois. First, it is Cafeteria Style, it's been year since I was a restaurant that served Cafeteria Style. Second, cash only. Third, breakfast all day. The food is good and proportions large. The menu is large, but know what you want when you come up to... read more

I first visited Valois a few years ago after hearing that it was a popular spot, mainly because President Obama frequented the place prior to becoming President. Back then the area was a bit spotty with some economic development starting up. A few years later and this area is much improved with lots of new retailers and shopping areas. The... More

Everyone in hyde park has to go to valois. Place your cooked order at the beginning of the line, it's done by the time you get to the end; generally breakfast items are not premade. Cheap, huge crowds, satisfying. I've had better omelets but I paid 2 - 3 times as much.

I had breakfast on this restaurant and ate a spinach omelet. A good price and nice staff. They open very early and accept only money.

Valois offers a cafeteria type set up. They have several already cooked entree options to choose from, you then pick a veg, potato, bread, soup etc as you move down the line. The bang for the buck is incredible and the quality is very good. I describe it as a home cooked meal that you didnt have to cook.

So very Chicago! Cafeteria line to order and very busy at the cooking skillet. Lots of energy and chatter, yet efficient. They are there to get your food and not offer chit-chat. Reminds me of Seinfeld's episode of the "Soup Nazi" The food is great and people watching at its best. Great Establishment? I will return!

Loved this place the first time i went there. Have been back several times and i like it more each time. Everything is like it's supposed to be. Perfect, basic American breakfast food. Have not had, and likely will never have, anything but breakfast food from Valois. The only thing that could be better would be to be served, but... More

We landed in Hyde Park early in the afternoon, and Valois was open and serving exactly what we needed. I had eggs and bacon, and my friend demolished a peach cobbler. The staff is super attentive. I wish some of Hyde Park's pricier restaurants would send their staff to see the great job done by Valois employees. We'll be back.

Staying in Hyde Park

Neighborhood Profile
Hyde Park
If you want to get a feel for quintessential South Side Chicago, you have to make a stop in Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic area is home to two of the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago. A stroll here will bring you past vintage and grand hotels converted into luxury apartment buildings; peaceful gardens, parks and green spaces; and ivy-adorned museums and other cultural institutions that speak to the city’s diversity and architectural beauty.
