After reading the wonderful reviews we decided that this was the place to try a different Polish restaurant. How disappointed we were when we approached and found the building closed and forlorn. What happened. Are they only open on the weekends? Sorry we wasn't able to eat at this highly praised restaurant.

I recently attended a diamond wedding celebration in this unpretentious Polish Highlanders restaurant. The ambience was welcoming and relaxing. The food was simply wonderful. The customer service was exceptional. A meal fit for kings and queens was presented, and the choice was sufficient to make me change my mind two or three times. I chose typical Polish food and found... More

We were celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary of my pen friend and they had chosen this restaurant. You cannot just walk in, you have to ring the door bell. The staff then welcome you in and sit you down at a table. There were appetisers on the table awaiting us and staff were quick to take our drink orders. I... More

This is a bright place in a dingy neighborhood. On a cold winter day went in and felt warm and cozy. There was a highlander band playing mountain music. The waitstaff was cordial and sat us at a sleigh which doubled as a booth.Very crowded but served well. The types of food was explained to us. Had the goulash over... More

My bf's family & I were staying the night near Midway & Being that his mom is 2nd generation Polish (& being that Chicago has a pretty large Polish population) I really wanted to take her to a good Polish restaurant... Boy, did we have a hit! Growing up in Pittsburgh, I grew up with Polish food, but here I... More

Stayed just up Archer on a recent Chicago visit. The Hotel staff told us this was the place to go for home cooked Polish food and they were right on. We committed a small faux paw by entering after pulling the bell once and not waiting to have the door opened -we thought the sign saying "pull the bell" was... More

Great restaurant. Love the Polish plate with Stuffed cabbage, peirogis and kielbasa among other items. Staff all speaks Polish and sign are bilingual. Ambience is nice and plenty of choices on the menu. Definitely a cultural experience. Really enjoyed the visit.

Recommend to all to taste a touch of Europe! Great food, great service! Affordable pricing.Close to Midway Airport. Dancing on Saturday and Sunday. Different age groups are invited on Saturday to dance to different type of live music. Sunday one can dance to discotheque music.

If you are staying in the Midway area and sick of the same old, same old restaurant experience, you might want to give Szalas a try. You dont have to be into polish food to appreciate whats on offer there. They do have traditional Polish food on offer, even your regular New York Strip comes with a sauce you might... More

I concur with other reviews. We went here wanting something different for lunch while waiting for our flight out of Midway. The decor makes for great ambiance with Sleigh-like booths, water wheel, door bell, if more is needed, signs written in Polish and staff/custumer speaking in Polish. The ambiance alone made me think we found a winner. Then the menu... More
