For 8-10 years excellent made fresh Italian . Best lasagna this side of Italy. Cut with a fork, silk ! Tried every thing by now and all tops.
We found this place after googling places around the Drake (which is where we were staying). The building is a quaint little house nestled among larger buildings and store fronts. When you walk in there is a really cute bar area which, in itself, would be a nice place to go for a quick drink. It looks like there is... More
Fantastic service from Ken! Fantastic dinner - the osso bucco was to die for. We were celebrating our birthdays, and everyone made us feel very special. Would go back every time we are in Chicago!
We tried this restaurant after our hotel had suggested it while vacationing in Chicago. I had the Risotto which was awesome. My husband had the Ossobuco which was average and a bit tasteless. I guess I expected the restaurant to be top notch from all of the reviews. Our server seemed new. She struggled reciting the specials and apologized for... More
It may seem crazy to say that this little, slightly old-school Italian restaurant could join the ranks in my mind of the great restaurants over the world I've been to, but I assure you, I will remember the night I ate at this place fondly till the day I die. Our server, I believe her name was Harmony, was absolutely... More
What a fantastic experience! In our opinion, Merlo on Maple is one of Chicago's hidden gems for fine dining and one of our favorites! Attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff, romantic setting, a good wine list and incredibly delicious house made pastas - Merlo is a must for anyone visiting the city and looking for good food and a nice evening!
We had a lovely, quiet dinner at Merlo. The atmosphere is homey and romantic, the service attentive but not too attentive, and the food really tasty. The artichoke tart appetizer was amazing, as were the entrees. My husband had the tagliatelle with bolognese sauce, and I had the tagliatelle with truffles, butter and parmigiano reggiano. Both were out of this... More
Jesse was our server and did a great job. The ambience was extremely nice, even though we were seated at a two-top when a four-top was available throughout our dinner. The food was good but somewhat overpriced. My wife and I each had a couple glasses of house wine, shared an appetizer, and had the fish and pork special of... More
We again ate at Merlo on Maple last night. This continues to be ourfavorite restaurant in Chicago and we think the most overlooked, fine dining experience in the city. I had a pasta special which was divine-house made pasta with imported burrata and other ingredients. My wife had scallops-the best she has ever had. Quiet atmosphere. Excellent and knowlegable service... More
Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. From the moment we entered the restaurant to when we left, was a memorable experience. I was last here 7 years ago. Boy have things changed. Prices have increased dramatically, but so has the food, ambiance and wait staff. Not that it was bad before, but they sure have "stepped up their game". Would definitely come... More
