While I never went to the former Japonais and this is my first dance with Morimoto, I was slightly nervous based on some of the yelp reviews and was luckily, very impressed! Overall, I think that Japonais leans towards stellar fusion food and sushi is somewhat of an obligatory inclusion, although we did enjoy our sashimi set. As avid sushi... More

Aside from being seated well past our 9:30 PM reservation time, our experience was exceptional. Delicious cocktails (with a typical city price tag) and great bar service. Enjoyed the steak cooked on a hot stone appetizer, even though the portion was disappointing, but the standout was the sushi. So good we placed a second order! We will be back for... More

I am doing a tripadvisor for Japonais Morimoto because I realize that majority of the clientele are from out of town, probably attracted by the celebrity chef name. If you are visiting Chicago, there are so many other local restaurants that should be visited, but if you're in the mood for sushi, a nice outdoor bar/lounge area this is a... More

We sat at the bar with Ryan Murphey. Service and friendliness can not get much better. My husband said the sashimi was the freshest he has had in a long time. I drank Saki and was very happy. :) Thanks again Ryan.

Every time I visit Chicago I stop by here. Everything is delicious and trendy. It is pricey but totally worth it.

My husband and I went here to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our first baby. Since this was a very special occasion, we decided to splurge and order Omakase, which is the 7-course meal, $120 a head. It was worth every penny. The courses featured lots of fresh seafood, plated so creatively and beautifully, and seasoned to perfection. Each course... More

Very good sushi! The California roll tasted a bit "fishy" but otherwise I loved everything we ordered, especially the yellowtail. Must try the deserts!! They are wonderful!

We were a party of 7, our first impression was good, it was an elegant place, nice calm music and not too much light. We started with the food, I wasn't very hungry so I just ordered a main course "Duck Duck Duck" and we told the waiter I was only having that. The rest of the table ordered different... More

Very unassuming location, beautiful decor, with equally impressive food, from the sushi, to the steaks and seafood. I highly recommend taking time to experience this magnificent location, maybe you will be as lucky as I was to run into Iron Chef Morimoto, who happened to be there the day of my visit.

Love this place, although it's a bit off the beaten path. Since we like to take public transportation in the city (cheaper, no wait for valet, no traffic), this wasn't the most convenient place to get to, but it was worth the distance. Much like several other restaurants downtown/north side, the tables are a little too close together, which surprises... More
