It is ashame, the food is actually pretty good. But they cram you in, turn up the music and it is not possible to have a civil conversation. It is like having dinner in a noisy bar. Won't go back. As long as the people of Chicago put up with the atmosphere, I'm sure they won't change!! more

Invited to join friends at Japonais for a late dinner - we were all in Chicago on business. Food and service were fabulous. Only complaint was the noise - lots of people enjoying their evening. I later learned that Japonais is one of the current hot spots in the city. It was expensive - glad I wasnt paying! more

The waiter will offer it, very emphatically, "since the kitchen is busy and that way the food will start coming a bit faster". Prepare for an overload of food, and a huge bill. The ABSOLUTE WORST! A disco serving overly salty food! Not worth the price. This is not a restaurant but a dance bar with bad appetizers. The worst experience ever. I am asian and love sushi. This is the worst japanese restaurant I've ever been to. The sushi was "ok" but the roll was awful. They used frozen tuna, very thin sliced on top of roll. Simply the worst roll I've ever had. The soup was too salty. I wasn't impressed with atmosphere at all, either.... more

Wonderful decor and incredible sushi! Have a drink in the bar downstairs before dinner to enjoy the different atmosphere, then head upstairs for dinner. The service was really good and I will definietly go back the next time I'm in Chicago. I would highly recommend this place if you want fantastic sushi (some of the best I have ever had),... more
