Excellent - surpassed our expectations!

We enjoyed the specialty cocktails - Asian Garden Martini was very special The pho beef soup very nice and our spring roll appetizer was very good Trout entree was very good, the duck entree was only average (we should have taken the waiters advice) service was really quite good - top of the line- it was a special birthday and... I wasn't sure exactly what to expect of a French Vietnamese restaurant, but I was extremely pleased nonetheless! The service was excellent, and very helpful with menu selections and recommendations. We found it particularly impressive that they all have the menu memorized, so when you can't pronounce the names of the dishes and order by number, they confirm by telling... More

We dined there during the week and the French Colonial atmosphere is quaint. Our food was simply bland as if they made up vats of chicken and fish at 1 in the afternoon and added veggies or other condiments to each of the dishes. The service was slow - the place seemed to have lost its passion and is simply... More

My wife and I have visited Le Colonial several times over the last 10 years, and our recent visit reinforced the fond memories of the food, the ambiance, and the service that we have previously experienced. The dining room is relatively small, the decor is French Colonial, and despite the tables being relatively close (but not too close) to one... More

I ate there on a recent business trip. The atmosphere was neat, and the food was excellent. I started with the Pho Oxtail soup, which was phenomenal. Then I had the Grilled Trout wrapped in a banana leaf with a side of curry sauce. It was very moist and flavorful and had a layer of noodles on top. I think... More

On a recent visit to Chicago, we took family members here for their first taste of Vietnamese food. The service was impeccable, and all the dishes were perfect representations of their type. I am allergic to peanuts, and they kindly furnished a peanut-free menu (all my favorite dishes were on this menu, sans peanuts!). Everyone took a trip upstairs to... More

Our party of four dined at this restaurant last night. The service was very spotty. We were served our appetizers promptly, but then, the waiter disappeared for a long time before we could order our entrees. Once we ordered our entrees, the food took a long time to be served. We watched a couple sit down after us being served... More

We loved it so much that we dined here twice. Beautiful decor, delicious food, attentive service. Cute and Cody outdoor dining under the canopy. Interesting French/Asian cuisine. Fresh and delicious.

Let me start by saying that this restaurant is absolutely fantastic. The interior is gorgeous and quaint, the food has fantastic flavors without being overpowering or greasy and our waiter was first rate. We are traveling in from out of state but I lived in Chicago for 3 years. When I come into town, I enjoy eating at nice restaurants... More

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
