Part of the fun we’re having living in downtown Chicago is trying all the restaurants. I wonder how long it will take to cover just those within a 30-minute walk from where we live. Wednesday night and my wife and I decided to go out and we played roulette with Open Table to see who had openings and was close... More

Reminiscent of a bistrot you'd encounter in France, with the added bonus of English speaking servers! We had great service and truly enjoyed the French onion soup (one of the best I've ever had), and braised rabbit. The service is slow as they take their time in preparation, exactly as you'd encounter in France. It's not just a meal, but... More

I am giving Bistro Zinc two stars because of the service we received. I would say that the server was icily polite. On previous visits, we had a fabulous server who made of feel welcome, was enthusiastic about the food and even made my grandkids feel special when we took them. The server last night actually made me feel uncomfortable... More

While sightseeing in Washington, we had drooled and salivated over an exquisitely delightful chicken crepe served by one of the food trucks lining the Mall. This tempting morsel shaped the menu choice of my travelling companion on the various stops we made through North America this fall. When we got to Chicago he was in the early stages of withdrawal...... More

French restaurants may be a bit out of style these days, but when you find a genuine one like his, you wonder why. The escargot took me back to my honeymoon in Paris 30 years ago. The fish was perfectly cooked. You won't find better French food at a better price.

After a morning of shopping around the area, around 1p on Saturday we stopped at Bistrot Zinc for lunch. It was a really nice experience. The restaurant was nearly empty at that hour so we got a great table next to the sidewalk; with the restaurant's windows open, it made for a great atmosphere. The menu had a nice balance... More

What a great find! I try to seek out French cuisine when traveling and this sweet spot did not disappoint. The Vol au Vent is my favorite and the staff is very knowledgable about the menu and wine. I make this a dinner stop every time I'm in Chicago.

Really good dinner spot in Chicago. More "French" than other restaurants claiming to be a French bistros I have eaten at. We had the Escargot as an appetizer. The dish was very good-but small. We paired it with a salad to share. I had the Croque Monsieur which was my favorite quick meal to grab when I lived abroad for... More

Was with group of fourteen and we were able to get a reservation and were seated rigth away with no wait. The staff was friendly and accomodating and the food was very good. Excellent Bloody Mary. The menu had a good variety of brunch/lunch fare at 11:00 am.

I met someone for the first time at this old fashioned but hip French bistro. It is a great place for a long, fun conversation in a calm corner of a busy neighborhood. If you can't get to Paris for a steak or a place to raise a toast in their wine, Bistro Zinc is a good alternative. I was... More
