Refined Mexican Food and Serious Tequila

First, let's deal with the Tequila. There are no frozen margaritas (they're "not authentic") but there are hundreds of ways to customize your drink with some mighty fine tequilas, until it's just the way you like it. Of course, the downside is that by the time you've tried three or four, you're... read more

3 of us went and we opted for the 7 course tasting menu, and as it was a special occasion, also went for the paired reserve wines. This meant an additional 70 dollars per person compared with if we had just got the tasting menu without wine. This is important to bear in mind. Firstly I will say that the... More

Excellent Service, Margaritas and Poblanos! Big Tequila list-so if you're an aficionado-you're in for a treat! They have delicious sauces that pack a spice punch and flavor wow! The stuffed jalapeños are a starter to try along with the fresh guacamole! I had the Tinga Poblanos and they were excellent! Also, don't leave without trying the spicy line sorbet!

Always a "must visit" when I'm in Chicago. I used to LOVE this place! My visit last week, was lackluster. The service was horrible. I was the only customer during my 1-1/2 hr visit. There were several wait staff, mostly standing around visiting w/ each other and looking at computer (for future reservations, I think) rather than serving the only... More

Being from California and Texas, we were skeptical of finding good Mexican food in Chicago. However, Salpicon was superb with regional Mexican dishes not found on your typical TexMex menu. They specialize in Oaxacan cuisine which is somewhat unusual in this country. The wine list is extensive and service is good. They have sidewalk dining which is quite pleasant. The... More

My boyfriend and I went here for a late night dinner before a Second City show the other week and had a fantastic experience. Our server James got us a prime spot on the patio and treated us with the utmost care throughout our experience at Salpicon. James recommended some great tequilas for our margaritas and we were off to... More

I've been to Salpicon several times, most recently this month. To call it just Mexican comes out wrong because this is Mexican fine dining. You can taste the Mexican-ness of of the food, but if you have never had fine Mexican food that you are in for an incredible treat. The food is incredible. The service is also nice and... More

Being a Mexican, I´m always suspicious about Mexican food in other countries, but my family and i wanted to dine in a Mexican restaurant to celebrate our Independence Day. Considering other famous restaurants were fully booked (Mexique, Topolobampo) we found good ratings about this restaurant. We expected some sort of celebration for the holiday, but found a half empty restaurant... More

What a lovely meal we enjoyed at this restaurant! The flavors were excellent, the service professional, attentive, and unobtrusive, and the wine list extensive and wide-ranging. This was a perfect end to our five days in Chicago. We have visited numerous Mexican restaurants in Chicago, including the most "well-known", and we find the Salpicon to be the most outstanding. Several... More
